About The Position

The Director of PR & Communications will lead and strengthen the firm’s voice, both internally and externally. This Director-level role carries enterprise-wide responsibility within a growing organization of more than 3,500 employees. The Director of PR & Communications serves as a senior leader within the Marketing & Communications organization, shaping firmwide narratives, advising leadership, and scaling communications strategies to support growth, geographic expansion, and organizational change. Reporting to the Senior Marketing Director, this role works in close partnership with the Chief Marketing Officer and executive leadership to ensure communications strategies align with firmwide priorities and business objectives. As the firm continues to grow organically and through acquisition, this role brings clarity, consistency, and confidence to how the organization communicates across disciplines, regions, and markets. The Director of PR & Communications leads external public relations efforts, strengthens internal communications, and supports crisis and change communications. This role also plays a critical part in shaping how the brand is represented in the marketplace. Equally important, the Director builds strong relationships with technical leaders and divisional teams, developing a deep understanding of services, business priorities, and technical expertise. This insight is translated into clear, compelling narratives that enhance brand recognition, reinforce business alignment, and support long-term growth. This position requires an experienced senior-level storyteller with a passion for design and the built environment. The ideal candidate can manage multiple initiatives while maintaining a clear strategic vision, effectively articulating what differentiates the firm and why it matters to clients and communities. The Director of PR & Communications partners closely with the Digital Marketing team to incorporate data-driven insights, explore emerging communication channels, and expand the firm’s reach and influence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Experience operating in a large, distributed organization where communications must scale across regions, disciplines, and leadership levels.
  • 15+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or marketing communications including experience developing national strategies and managing distributed teams. Proven ability to lead through influence and drive measurable results at scale. Ideally within the AEC or professional services industry.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to a high level of quality and accountability.
  • Display professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proven track record of building high-performing teams and delivering measurable PR results.
  • Strong understanding of technical subject matter and the ability to distill complex information into clear, audience-appropriate messaging.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with technical leaders and aligning communications strategies with business objectives.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills across various formats.
  • Skilled at managing complex projects, competing priorities, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and direct an integrated PR and communications strategy that strengthens brand reputation, supports business objectives, and scales effectively across markets, disciplines, and regions. Establish priorities, success metrics, and governance to ensure consistency and impact.
  • Partner with executive and senior leadership to shape and align leadership communications, including thought leadership, firmwide messaging, and change management. Serve as a trusted advisor on narrative, tone, and positioning to support leadership visibility and organizational alignment.
  • Provide strategic direction for how PR and communications leverage digital platforms and emerging channels. Partner with the Digital Marketing team to align messaging with broader campaigns, use audience insights to inform channel strategy, integrate multimedia storytelling including video, audio, and interactive formats.
  • Serve as the firm’s senior communications strategist, responsible for shaping and protecting the narratives that define Colliers Engineering & Design’s work, values, and impact. Develop storytelling frameworks and messaging standards that translate complex technical expertise into clear, compelling narratives, ensuring consistency, differentiation, and credibility across disciplines, markets, and audiences.
  • Set the strategy and standards for firmwide internal communications that build alignment, trust, and engagement. Guide messaging related to growth, change, and strategic priorities, ensuring clarity and consistency across leadership and regions.
  • Set media strategy and priorities, directing outreach that elevates the firm’s visibility in priority markets and disciplines. Cultivate senior-level media relationships and guide the team’s proactive and responsive engagement.
  • Lead communication strategy during sensitive or highvisibility situations, partnering with executive leadership to ensure timely, credible, and consistent messaging.
  • Lead and develop a distributed PR and communications team, setting clear expectations, priorities, and standards of excellence. Create the structure, workflows, and coaching culture needed to deliver consistent, high-quality communications at scale.
  • Manage and mentor a mid-size growing team of corporate and regional PR and communications professionals.
  • Guide workload prioritization, project planning, and coaching to ensure timely and highquality delivery.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, business development, events, and corporate services to align messaging with business goals.
  • Maintain media and messaging toolkits, executive bios, boilerplates, and corporate narratives.
  • Lead issues and crisis communications as needed in partnership with senior leadership.
