About The Position

The Director of Operations manages and supports activities for Corporate Manufacturing, encompassing Turnaround Best Practices for Planning and Execution, Strategic Planning, Operational Analysis, Continuous Improvement, and Digitalization. This role also involves supporting large front-end project development before handover to the Major Project Group, and managing Vinyls & Olefins Technology and Training. The Director is responsible for establishing systems and procedures to meet Business objectives, setting performance standards, and ensuring compliance with Company rules, policies, and procedures. The position requires analyzing chemical plant performance and making recommendations for improvements. Key aspects include providing operations expertise, reviewing corporate manufacturing activities, engaging in large front-end engineering efforts, and resolving plant quality issues and significant equipment failures. The incumbent must stay current with technical changes and improvements and will also support special projects through review, approval, and implementation.

Requirements

  • B. S. degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Fifteen years chemical plant production / project experience.
  • Ten years in progressive supervisory positions.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support activities for Corporate Manufacturing including Turnaround Best Practices for Planning and Execution, Strategic Planning, Operational Analysis, Continuous Improvement, Digitalization, support large front-end project development (before handed over to Major Project Group), Vinyls & Olefins Technology Management and Training.
  • Establish systems and procedures, etc. necessary to meet Business objectives.
  • Set standards of performance and enforces compliance with Company rules, policies and procedures.
  • Analyze chemical plant performance and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide Corporate Manufacturing Department operations expertise and review.
  • Be involved in large front-end engineering efforts, resolution of plant repeat quality issues, and significant equipment failure issues as required.
  • Be current and informed of technical changes and improvements.
  • Issue monthly turnaround report to ensure proper communication of turnaround schedules and costs.
  • Issue quarterly Earnings Impact Report on Vinyls operations to Accounting.
  • Support and review Special Projects.
  • Support special projects during the review, approval, and implementation process.
  • Coordinate and document Turnaround Best Practices.
  • Provide guidelines to Plants on best practices for small, medium and large turnarounds.
  • Work with the Plants to ensure adherence to these guidelines.
  • Develop a TAR manual that will be used at all sites with a tiered approach to handle the small, medium and large TARs.
  • Manage department’s Best Practices efforts and ensure Best Practices are documented.
  • Conduct operations analysis including review of operations performance, research of bench marking data, and issuance of overall operations bench marking reports.
  • Review and coordinate the publication of the Manufacturing Department annual Strategic Plan including gap analysis and gap closure strategies.
  • Provide operations facility support during large unit outages, review and implementation of area efficiency processes, and larger scale facility performance improvement efforts.
  • Lead a small Corp Manufacturing training group that provides support and co-ordination across the plants.
  • Provide best practices on training to the Plants.
  • Supervise the Vinyls and Olefin Technical Expert team.
  • Ensure consistency across the Technology Experts.
  • Perform other job duties as determined by the manager.
