The Director of Operations is a key member of the company senior leadership team and responsible for planning and directing the operations of the manufacturing facilities to meet company objectives in quality, customer satisfaction, productivity, profitability, and inventory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited university in engineering or operations management.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing (not assembly) with a minimum of 6 years in management.

Provides ongoing feedback, support, and developmental opportunities to assist employees in goal attainment. Conducts timely corrective/disciplinary actions that are consistent and well-documented.   • History of using ERP systems and tools to manage production, inventory and purchasing.
  • Required to wear safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or other advanced degree, preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a steel fabrication (cutting, forming, welding, painting, upfitting, etc.) facility/environment, preferred.
  • Experience leading large capital projects.
  • Strong finance and P&L acumen, preferred.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a manufacturing plan with measurable goals to achieve annual and long term strategic objectives.
  • Drive the transformation to a Lean environment and lead the implementation of the 80/20 philosophy across the organization.
  • Direct all plant operations personnel to:
  • Assess and implement manufacturing technology to lower cost.
  • Ensure the manufacture of quality products which are delivered >95% on time.
  • Achieve lead times to meet market expectations.
  • Promote safe work practices that achieve safety statistics that are better than similar industries’ accident statistics.
  • Address any customer complaints quickly and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain good labor relations.
  • Develop and implement employee training and testing programs.
  • Ensure compliance to all regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Manage manufacturing engineering function to:
  • Optimize facilities layouts for capacity, flow & inventory management
  • Direct equipment and facility maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Optimize labor for new and existing product designs using industry standard tools & practices such as Lean Manufacturing & DFMA.
  • Decrease total product costs and improve product quality through process improvement.
  • Process corrective actions in a timely fashion.
  • Develop and implement annual Cap-Ex plans.
  • Manage the materials function to ensure a dependable supply of high-quality raw materials and components as well as develop and maintain domestic and international component sources at the lowest possible delivered cost.
  • Manage logistics to customers to minimize freight costs while maximizing customer satisfaction and commitment.
