We offer a range of settings including inpatient psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, and outpatient counseling and therapies. Role Overview The Director of Nursing oversees the planning, direction, implementation, and enhancement of quality in nursing and the overall Milieu. This role entails administrative duties, including strategizing, budgeting, managing, and assessing the operations and resources of Nursing Services while offering support to the Milieu. Additionally, the Director of Nursing gathers and analyzes statistical data and prepares reports for the Executive Director and Leadership Committees.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Missouri
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; master’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in a nursing leadership role, particularly in pediatric or adolescent care, is strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to patient-centered care

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in behavioral health or pediatric nursing
  • Background in inpatient psychiatric care

Responsibilities

  • Adherence to Guidelines Participate in and follow all mandatory guidelines for youth care, Individual Treatment Plans (ITP), and Milieu Therapy (MT) planning goals. Ensure compliance with the standards of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing, the Missouri Nurse Practice Act, and Joint Commission Standards, while implementing nursing interventions and evaluating their effectiveness through interdisciplinary work.
  • Policy Development and Review Collaborate with nursing and other departments to formulate departmental policies that meet regulatory standards, obtaining necessary approvals from the Executive Director. Review and revise nursing policies annually or as needed to comply with changing standards.
  • Staff Management Schedule, lead, direct, and supervise nursing staff, Mental Health Technician's and other professionals in the facility while developing staffing patterns that align with safety needs, state regulations, and budgetary guidelines. Handle recruitment, interviewing, and recommendations for hiring qualified personnel.
  • Competency Assurance Ensure ongoing competency of staff through examinations, direct observation, training, periodic evaluations, and peer reviews to maintain high standards of care.
  • Quality Improvement Initiatives Develop and implement quality improvement measures aimed at enhancing treatment and promoting positive outcomes for residents.
  • Record Management Ensure accurate and timely completion of client records, maintaining legibility and compliance with documentation standards.
  • Leadership Participation Actively engage in Leadership Committee meetings, representing nursing needs and supporting clinical strategies across service areas. Prepare and submit timely statistical reports for leadership and participate in annual planning for budget allocations related to staffing and equipment.
  • Teamwork and Communication Maintain a professional and collaborative work environment by promoting effective communication and teamwork with coworkers, supervisors, residents, and their families.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders Establish effective communication with the Executive Director, physicians, case management, and therapists to provide nursing consultations and support direct care as needed, 24/7.
  • Therapeutic Environment Create and maintain a safe and therapeutic care environment for residents, prioritizing their safety, rights, and comfort while respecting cultural and religious differences. Implement de-escalation techniques and special treatment procedures as required.
  • Education and Support Act as a liaison between families and healthcare providers, providing education, support, and resources to help families navigate their child’s care.
