About The Position

The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the overall clinical operations and nursing services of the facility. This role provides leadership, direction, and support to the nursing staff to ensure high-quality resident care and compliance with all regulatory standards. The DON collaborates with physicians, administrators, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement care policies, manage staffing and scheduling, and promote a positive, resident-centered environment. The position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to maintain excellence in care delivery and staff development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN); Master’s degree preferred
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse (RN)
  • Supervisory experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or clinic
  • CPR and first aid certification
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Minimum of 5 years nursing experience with 2 years management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of healthcare legal regulations and best practices
  • Aptitude for problem solving
  • Understanding of basic budgeting and financial reporting
  • Strong ability to lead and develop staff
  • Excellent communication and people skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of nurses and medical personnel to deliver quality client care
  • Interview, hire, and train employees and monitor their performance
  • Manage nursing staff schedules and workloads
  • Monitor and maintain nursing programs and activities in compliance with current policies and regulations
  • Use your nursing skills and knowledge to advise in difficult or long-term care situations
  • Complete reporting and auditing requirements in a timely manner
  • Oversee the operation of nursing care and services and the staff delivering them
  • Promotes the highest standards of excellence in resident care
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and resolves deficiencies when needed
  • Delegates to clinical administrative staff as appropriate
  • Collaborate with other departments and professionals to streamline operations to maintain a safe, comfortable, and functional environment
  • Ensures equipment and supplies are managed appropriately
  • Ensures appropriate documentation is entered into the electronic medical records (EMR) system
  • Ensures, and may provide, ongoing staff education and competencies to professional and non-professional staff
