About The Position

The Mid-Atlantic Division is looking for a Director of Merchandising who will oversee merchandising strategy, implementation and development of local Merchandising Team in coordination with the company mission while ensuring financial obligations are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or related field.
  • 5-10+ years of retail/category/marketing experience.
  • Ten total years’ experience in the grocery industry.
  • 5 yrs. experience managing people.
  • Market research experience.
  • Proven ability to develop merchandisers.
  • Sales orientation experience.
  • Arbitration/problem resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for building a culture of openness, collaboration and ownership within the Merchandising and Marketing Team
  • Oversees allocation of projections financial deliverables to Division Sales Managers in conjunction with the SVP.
  • Integral in teaching, coaching and development of Sales Managers, ASMs in category excellence and leadership
  • Partners with SVPMM to oversee Merchandising decisions across the division, both Fresh and Center Store Departments, including assortment, display, pricing and promotion, local and national programs, etc., ensuring those decisions are in line with stated strategies and goals
  • Helps monitor performance relative to P&L goals, led with Sales and Line 8 profitability and ensures appropriate actions are taken to achieve results
  • Oversight of direct reporting functional groups: Vendor Funds Analyst, BDR Coordinators, and Reset Coordinators.
  • Oversight of Center Store Refresh and Remodel Layout and Flow development and execution.
  • Chairs and attends sales planning meetings and weekly ad meetings.
  • In collaboration with SVPMM, develops and drives merchandising strategies for division in partnership with Merchandising and Operations team.
  • Oversees implementation, monitoring and reporting on merchandising strategies and major projects.
  • Actively engages with National Team to influence and leverage corporate merchandising strategies and resources.
  • Attends key vendor promotion planning meetings.
  • Drives market branding campaigns/programs (consistent with Corporate) in conjunction with Marketing.
  • Oversees division/market research in coordination with 3rd party research firms, i.e. Symphony, and corporate Customer and Market Intelligence team and ensures reporting is integrated into strategies.
  • Tours stores to assess overall implementation effectiveness.
  • Monitors competitor advertising, promotion, marketing initiatives.
