About The Position

CatFace is seeking a seasoned Director of Merchandise with deep experience in the toy and consumer products industry to lead the development, execution, and growth of our merchandise program. This is a pivotal role focused on translating our on-screen characters and stories, current merchandise, and future ideas into high-quality, engaging products—especially toys and collectibles—that resonate with our massive global fanbase.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience leading product development in the toy, collectibles, or children’s merchandise industry.
  • A strong track record of translating entertainment IP into successful physical products, especially in kid-focused markets.
  • Expertise in the full toy product lifecycle—from ideation to shelf.
  • Excellent vendor management and sourcing experience, including overseas manufacturing.
  • Strong strategic planning and leadership skills, with the ability to align product strategy to content and brand goals.
  • Creative thinker with a commercial mindset—able to spot trends, identify audience wants, and bring innovative products to life.
  • Strong understanding of merchandising for digital-first brands or creators.
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus.
  • This position is based in our Austin, Texas office, and candidates must be willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the end-to-end merchandise strategy with a primary focus on toys, plush, collectibles, apparel, and accessories that reflect our IP and delight our audience.
  • Lead all stages of product development—from concept and design to manufacturing, logistics, and sales.
  • Collaborate with creative, animation, and production teams to ensure merchandise aligns with brand narratives and content arcs.
  • Identify and capitalize on trends in the toy and youth consumer product markets, leveraging insights to inform product design and timing.
  • Manage vendor and licensing partner relationships to ensure innovation, product quality, safety standards, and timely delivery.
  • Oversee marketing and promotional efforts for merchandise, including product launches, campaigns, and fan engagement initiatives.
  • Align merchandise strategies with company goals, working closely with executive leadership.
  • Recruit, grow, and lead a high-performing merchandise and product development team.
