About The Position

Samena Swim & Recreation Club is a member-owned, community-driven organization seeking a Member Experience & Growth Director to design, own, and scale its membership growth engine. This is not a traditional marketing role. This role owns membership growth outcomes, associated budgets, and a small support team, and is accountable for translating strategy into measurable results.

Requirements

  • Proven experience owning membership, subscription, or customer growth outcomes tied to measurable results.
  • Willingness to be accountable for outcomes, not just activity or output.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and optimize end-to-end member or customer journeys.
  • Strong data literacy, including use of conversion, retention, and churn metrics.
  • Hands-on execution mindset with comfort operating in mission-driven organizations.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, finance, staff, volunteers, leadership, and community partners.
  • Strong understanding of Office 365 software (Excel, Outlook, etc), CRM systems, design software (Canva, Adobe), and social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc).
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and train others.
  • Maintain current American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid / CPR / AED certification, or equivalent certification.

  • B.A. or B.S. in marketing, communications, business management, recreation or related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Membership Growth Strategy Define and refine membership growth strategy by segment. Establish clear value propositions grounded in member needs and desires. Prioritize initiatives based on impact, cost, and feasibility.
  • Membership Funnel Ownership Design and optimize the full membership funnel. Improve conversion mechanics such as tours, trials, and referrals. Reduce friction and churn across the lifecycle.
  • Member Experience Design Define a strong member experience at each lifecycle stage. Improve early-tenure engagement and retention. Align experience delivery with operational teams.
  • Member Advocacy and Community Growth Design and manage referral and ambassador programs. Equip members with messaging and tools. Strengthen community identity and belonging. Proactively pursue leads, build partnerships with external groups, and attain referrals.
  • Marketing as a Growth Tool Use marketing channels to support funnel objectives. Oversee messaging with focus on conversion. Manage vendors or contractors as needed.
  • Data, Metrics, and Accountability Track joins, churn, conversion, and retention metrics. Build dashboards and reports. Run experiments and scale what works.
  • Budget Development and Financial Stewardship Develop, manage, and be accountable for the membership growth and engagement budget. Allocate resources across acquisition, conversion, onboarding, and retention initiatives based on expected impact and return. Partner with the Executive Director to ensure growth initiatives align with financial sustainability goals. Track spend against outcomes and adjust allocations based on performance and learning.
  • Team Leadership Hire, train, and supervise 2–3 part-time staff or contractors supporting membership engagement, outreach, and experience delivery. Set clear priorities, workflows, and performance expectations aligned to membership growth objectives. Ensure part-time resources are deployed efficiently and focused on high-impact activities.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership Partner with leadership, Samena staff, and volunteers. Align growth initiatives with financial goals. Own membership growth internally.
  • Performs other duties, projects, and special Club activities, as assigned.
