About The Position

Join one of the fastest-growing media companies in the U.S. as our Director of Media Research. We are seeking a talented individual with a broad range of skills to drive revenue by developing reports, interpreting data, and creating compelling sales materials. In this role, you will provide strategic insights and creative recommendations to programming and management, working independently with a wide variety of sales teams across multiple radio and television markets nationwide. You will report to the Vice President of Media Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of progressive experience in media research or a related field, demonstrating a deep understanding of media metrics, measurement systems, and qualitative research methodologies.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, data visualization) and PowerPoint (creating compelling, executive-level presentations).
  • Strong quantitative literacy with a proven ability to manage and interpret large datasets accurately, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven experience collaborating effectively with sales, programming, and executive leadership to translate research into actionable business strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and drive projects from inception to completion with minimal supervision.
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information and engaging with senior leadership and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with core industry research software, including Nielsen Audio tools (Tapscan, PD Advantage, PPM Analysis Tool) and/or Nielsen Video tools (Arianna, NLTV, NNTV, AdIntel).
  • Familiarity with consumer insights tools such as MRI-Simmons or Nielsen Scarborough for linking consumer behavior with media consumption.
  • Working knowledge of Nielsen audio and video methodologies to contextualize data and insights.
  • Prior experience extracting and utilizing data from U.S. Census Bureau websites and tables for market analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver essential sales and competitive intelligence reports, including market rankings, one-sheets on station performance, and advertiser category decks for MediaCo's radio markets nationwide.
  • Generate innovative qualitative research that connects consumer behavior to media consumption, responding efficiently to ad-hoc requests and supporting revenue growth.
  • Produce high-stakes presentation materials and data visualizations for the Board of Directors and Investor meetings, supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Lead initiatives to increase productivity, automate research processes, and improve insights, elevating our overall research capabilities.
  • Collaborate with VP of Research to provide holistic insights across the various media platforms, including network, local, and streaming television, radio, as well as social media metrics.
  • Generate quarterly local market audience selling estimates for TV and radio stations.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to optimize the use of WideOrbit Media software for effective sales inventory management.
