About The Position

This role is critical to the continued success of our focus on employee development at all levels of the organization. The Director of Learning develops and implements a comprehensive learning and development strategy that supports the agency. This role will be responsible for all programs and processes that facilitate executive, leadership, professional development and continuous learning of employees across the organization. This role oversees the planning, designing, building, and implementation of all learning programs and processes to support our employees and their work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in training and development, Organizational Development, Education or related field.
  • 7+ years of training/facilitation experience required.
  • 5+ years of training development experience.
  • 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of adult training methodology, instructional design, learning theory and principles.
  • Knowledge of LMS and web-based learning development systems.
  • High-level of effective interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal plus organization and presentation skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Word, Excel and Teams, or similar programs required.
  • Valid driver’s license/ acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree a plus.
  • Non-profit leadership experience, a plus.
  • ASTD Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, direct, and monitor the development and implementation of a comprehensive Learning strategy with solutions and services to support agency and talent objectives, with the input of all agency stakeholders.
  • Through partnership with agency leaders and Human Resources, assess employees’ learning needs, using methods such as surveys, skill assessment, personal interviews and meetings to identify skill gaps and deliver learning solutions to address the organization's most critical needs.
  • Lead the creation and implementation of the Leaning department’s annual budget.
  • Oversee the contract and manage the effectiveness of the agency’s Learning Management system (Relias) and technology-based learning development system (Articulate).
  • Revise Learning policy and procedures and related documentation, as needed.
  • Direct the design and delivery of comprehensive learning and development programs such as New Employee Orientation, career & professional development, and leadership development programs to ensure alignment with the identified skills required to succeed within our agency and our areas of practice.
  • Facilitate training throughout the agency, utilizing adult learning principles and a variety of instructional techniques to engage all levels of Heartland Family Service learners.
  • Lead, manage and assess the abilities of, and develop all Learning Department team members, as well as internal agency facilitators through training, stretch goals and feedback.
  • Review existing training material and identify enhancements/revisions necessary to ensure the existing training remains relevant to ensure high productivity and safety among all HFS employees.
  • Plan, develop and implement agency learning events and take on special projects as they arise.
  • Develop metrics and competency guides to measure effectiveness of learning programs.
  • Ensure COA Training and Supervision standards are met. Oversee compilation and delivery of all COA data to the QI team, participating in COA meetings and interviews.
  • Create and update training catalogue of Learning offerings for business development.
  • Maintain current certification in areas assigned to facilitate.
  • Create, maintain, and share an appropriate and dynamic self-care plan.
  • Research training best practices to stay current with new techniques and practices.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Display a courteous and caring attitude at all employees, clients, volunteers, and visitors of the Agency.
  • Develop personal and department related skills through participation in internal and external training opportunities including printed material and audio and/or visual media.
  • Strive to make connections between the agency and the larger community whenever possible to contribute to the agency’s ongoing fundraising and friend-raising efforts.
  • Essential functions of this job are to be performed on company physical work site with hybrid work schedule coordinated with supervisor.
  • Performs other program related duties as assigned.
