About The Position

The Director of Institutional Research provides strategic leadership for the collection, analysis, and reporting of institutional data that informs decision-making across the university. This role ensures that leaders have timely, accurate, and actionable insights to advance key functions and strategies at the university. Reporting to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director oversees all aspects of institutional research, including data governance, compliance reporting, and survey administration. The position supervises one professional staff member and collaborates closely with colleagues across academic and administrative units to foster a culture of evidence-based decision-making. While candidates who seek to work on our Fort Wayne campus are encouraged to apply, this position is designated for remote work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Statistics, Economics, Business, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in SQL and data visualization/reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret data for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of higher education data reporting requirements (IPEDS, accreditation, state/federal).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in institutional research, data analysis, or higher education analytics.
  • Experience managing or mentoring professional staff.
  • Understanding of enrollment and retention data, and how analytics support student success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, management, and communication of institutional data that supports planning, assessment, accreditation, enrollment management, and retention initiatives.
  • Oversee federal, state, and accreditation reporting (e.g., IPEDS, ICHE, Common Data Set, U.S. News, College Board).
  • Develop dashboards and data visualizations (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) that translate complex data into clear insights for campus stakeholders.
  • Partner with departments to design and analyze institutional surveys (e.g., NSSE, student satisfaction, alumni outcomes).
  • Ensure accuracy and ethical use of data through consistent application of governance and privacy standards (FERPA, data integrity, security protocols).
  • Manage and improve data systems and reporting tools (SQL, Envision, Argos, Insights, Colleague, CRM Recruit/Advance, Workday).
  • Serve as an institutional resource for understanding trends in higher education, assessment, and analytics.
