About The Position

Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) seeks a dynamic and strategic Director of Individual Giving to lead the college's efforts in securing major gifts from individual donors. This front-line fundraising role is responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors capable of making five- and six-figure gifts in support of student scholarships, college programs and initiatives, and an upcoming endowment campaign. The ideal candidate will be a mission-driven and relationship-focused professional with a strong track record of securing significant and transformative gifts, developing donor strategies, and partnering with institutional leadership, faculty, and key stakeholders to advance philanthropy during an exceptionally exciting time at MassArt.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of five years of experience in fundraising or resource development.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing high-capacity donor portfolios and consistently securing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience crafting compelling donor proposals.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience as a leader of fundraising teams.
  • Knowledge of higher education and/or arts and culture fundraising.
  • Proficiency in CRM fundraising software (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce) and donor analytics.
  • Experience with data-driven decision-making and using analytics to inform strategy.
  • A deep appreciation for and ability to articulate and align with the educational mission and aspirations of Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key gift officer, identifying and managing a portfolio of 150+ leadership and planned giving prospects, focusing on donors who have the potential to give five- and six-figure gifts or more.
  • Develop and execute individualized solicitation strategies, cultivation plans, and stewardship for major and planned gift prospects.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Foundation's philanthropic priorities and identify, qualify, and cultivate prospective donors for those priority areas.
  • Participate in face-to-face briefings, solicitations, and gift negotiations in partnership with the AVP and VP of Institutional Advancement, department chairs, faculty, volunteers, etc.
  • Work in partnership with Advancement Services to ensure the proper acknowledgment and recognition of assigned donors. Monitor stewardship activities and implement reporting schedules. etc.
  • Work with the Individual Giving and Alumni Relations teams to monitor the pipeline of everyday donors to identify major gift prospects.
  • Partner with the Associate Vice President and Vice President of Institutional Advancement to align major gift cultivation strategies with the broader fundraising goals of the institution.
  • Facilitate collaboration within the Individual Giving and Alumni Relations teams to ensure a unified and holistic approach to prospect management across annual, planned, and major gifts.
  • Lead and facilitate the monthly Moves Management meetings, ensuring coordinated and strategic action across the Individual Giving team.
  • Partner with the AVP to engage and support internal and external stakeholders, including volunteer committees and working groups, to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies.
