About The Position

We're seeking an experienced HR Director to lead our people operations, culture, and training across all Turnip Truck locations. This is a pivotal role responsible for building strong teams, upholding our company values, ensuring compliance, and creating a consistent employee experience that supports both our mission and store operations. As HR Director, you'll work closely with ownership and store leadership to strengthen culture, enhance onboarding and training, drive performance management, and align our workforce with business goals. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in retail or grocery environments and is passionate about community, wellness, and people development.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of HR experience
  • 2+ years in an HR leadership or management role
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and HR best practices
  • Proven ability to coach managers and resolve workplace conflicts professionally
  • Experience building training programs and onboarding systems
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability

Nice To Haves

  • HR experience in retail, grocery, hospitality, or multi-location environments
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Experience with training platforms or learning management systems
  • Understanding of natural/organic food standards and dietary lifestyles

Responsibilities

  • Lead, model, and reinforce Turnip Truck's values across all locations
  • Coach Store Directors, Managers, and Team Leads in professionalism, communication, and team development
  • Partner with leadership to build strong, aligned, and consistent teams
  • Drive culture initiatives and strengthen employee engagement throughout the organization
  • Build and oversee Turnip Truck University, including: – Comprehensive onboarding systems – Natural foods and dietary training – Clean ingredient standards and product knowledge – Customer service excellence – Leadership development programs
  • Develop orientation materials covering company history, values, standards, and role expectations
  • Create assessments and learning tools to ensure comprehension and accountability
  • Manage end-to-end recruiting, hiring, and retention efforts
  • Oversee employee relations, documentation, corrective actions, and performance reviews
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal labor laws
  • Manage HR policies, employee handbook updates, and internal standards
  • Champion safe, fair, and values-aligned workplace practices
  • Partner with leadership to align labor budgets with staffing needs
  • Support scheduling optimization, payroll accuracy, and labor cost management
  • Track turnover metrics and develop workforce planning strategies
  • Report directly to ownership
  • Collaborate closely with Directors, Managers, and senior leadership
  • Provide insights on team morale, retention, culture health, and training effectiveness
  • Participate in strategic planning related to growth, operations, and people systems
