About The Position

The Director plays a key role in supporting the Human Resources function for a historic steam railroad with two distinct lines of business-one governed by Railroad Retirement regulations and the other subject to Pennsylvania employment laws. This position is responsible for executing a wide range of HR duties, including full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, training coordination, compliance, and processing multi-state payroll. In addition will be responsible for the management of safety procedures and policies under the workers' compensation and Federal Railroad Association. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining the highest level of accuracy and confidentiality.

Requirements

  • HR roles, with a focus on accuracy and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Work and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the processing of bi-weekly multi-state payroll and the filing of required tax forms.
  • Manage the recruitment, attend job fairs and onboarding process, including job postings, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and facilitating new hire orientation.
  • Administer employee benefits programs and assist employees with inquiries related to benefits enrollment, changes, and claims.
  • Meet mandatory deadlines for health insurance, 401k, railroad retirement, etc.
  • Handle employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
  • Implement and enforce HR and Safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, EEO, etc.
  • Coordinate training and development initiatives to enhance employee skills and performance.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
  • Provide HR support to employees and managers daily, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
  • Contribute to HR projects and initiatives, such as employee engagement programs or policy development.
  • Support safety and workforce compliance for regulated rail operations and hospitality/event business lines.
  • Utilize Excel to analyze data, prepare reports for senior leadership and board of directors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
