About The Position

Director of Grantmaking: This position is key to advancing the foundation’s grantmaking and community leadership imperatives. Reporting to the Vice President of Grantmaking, responsibilities include grants and contract management, workflow coordination, relationship building, and supervision. About us: The Indianapolis Foundation is one of the nation’s first community foundations, established in 1916. It received its first gift in 1920 and made its first grant in 1924. What We’re Looking For : This position is key to advancing the foundation’s grantmaking and community leadership imperatives. Reporting to the Vice President of Grantmaking, responsibilities include grants and contract management, workflow coordination, relationship building, and supervision. This person is responsible for implementing processes and systems that ensure equitable and effective practices are instituted. The director will work closely with foundation staff and community stakeholders, so must capably represent the Indianapolis Foundation’s values and brand

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant academic discipline or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit management, grantmaking, or a related field, with corresponding expertise in equitable, community initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, project, and contract management skills, with a proven track record of setting up effective mechanisms to coordinate complex programs and budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and developing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of grantmaking principles, practices, and trends.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, demonstrating cultural competence, sensitivity to community dynamics, and a commitment to racial equity and justice.
  • Understanding and adherence to high standards of ethics and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Ability to travel between multiple office locations and attend off-premise events, such as community events and meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Grant Process Facilitation: Oversee grantmaking cycles, including application development and allocation process.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and help develop a high-performing grantmaking team, and foster a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • Financial and Operational Oversight: Develop and manage comprehensive workplans, workflows, and grantmaking budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency. Work together with the Vice President of Grantmaking to build and coordinate contract review and management processes.
  • Performance Enhancement: Support effective systems interface, data coordination, and feedback loops to inform and improve grantmaking processes and strategies.
  • Reporting and compliance: Support the development of board and donor reports, grant agreements, and disbursement schedules, ensuring all grantmaking policies and procedures are followed. Assist in the improvement of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Stakeholder relations: Serve as a key liaison with community partners, grantees, and other stakeholders, while also collaborating with other departments like development, finance, and communications.
  • Other special projects and duties as assigned.
