About The Position

The Director of Financial Reporting is responsible for leading the organization’s financial reporting function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant reporting in support of a mission-driven Behavioral Health organization. This role requires a basic working knowledge of GAAP and how financial data flows through an organization, while partnering with finance leadership to translate that information into clear, reliable reporting. The Director serves as a key owner of the Vena platform, overseeing template development, modeling, workflows, user access, and ongoing system optimization—including the thoughtful adoption of AI-enabled tools—to improve insight, consistency, and scalability in a fully remote environment

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Strong experience in financial reporting
  • Hands-on Vena experience including: template building modeling workflow building
  • experience serving as a Vena system owner or administrator
  • familiarity with Vena Copilot or other AI-assisted financial planning and reporting tools
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working in a structured reporting environment
  • Basic understanding of GAAP and financial statement preparation
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and communicate effectively in a remote role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages at a corporate level while fulfilling ad hoc regional reporting as requested.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, consistency, and alignment with organizational standards and internal controls
  • Perform variance analysis and communicate key trends, risks, and performance drivers to leadership
  • Support review requests through organized documentation and clear reporting support
  • Build and maintain Vena input templates and reporting templates using best practices for usability, consistency, and accuracy
  • Design templates that support structured data entry, validations, versioning, and standardized formatting
  • Create and refine templates that align with reporting cycles (monthly/quarterly) and support multiple stakeholders across the organization
  • Implement template controls such as: drop-down lists and input restrictions conditional formatting and error-checking structured layouts for department or entity-level reporting
  • Develop and maintain Vena models to support reporting, forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Build scalable structures for multi-department, multi-location, or multi-program reporting environments
  • Create modeling logic to support: allocations and cost distribution driver-based calculations scenario comparisons and trend analysis rollups and consolidations across teams or cost centers
  • Build and manage Vena workflows to streamline collaboration, improve accountability, and ensure timely completion of reporting tasks
  • Configure workflow steps, assignments, approvals, and deadlines aligned to monthly reporting timelines
  • Monitor workflow progress, troubleshoot bottlenecks, and drive completion across contributors
  • Improve workflow design over time by strengthening: visibility and tracking audit readiness and documentation process consistency and governance
  • Serve as a functional owner of the Vena platform, ensuring the system continues to evolve alongside organizational needs
  • Stay current on Vena product updates, new features, and best practices, including emerging capabilities in AI-enabled tools (e.g., Vena Copilot)
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements that improve: reporting accuracy and speed user experience and adoption automation and analytical insight
  • Partner with Finance leadership to thoughtfully introduce and govern new Vena functionality, ensuring changes are well-documented, tested, and aligned with reporting standards
  • Leverage AI-enabled features, where appropriate, to support: faster analysis and insights improved forecasting and scenario evaluation reduction of manual or repetitive reporting tasks
  • Manage Vena user access, roles, and permissions, ensuring appropriate segregation of duties and data security
  • Maintain user lists and access levels as roles change, including onboarding and offboarding users
  • Partner with Finance leadership and IT (as applicable) to ensure Vena access aligns with organizational controls and audit expectations
  • Periodically review user access and permissions to ensure continued compliance and system integrity
  • Serve as a point of contact for resolving Vena access issues and permission-related questions
