About The Position

GMF Steel Group is hiring for a Director of Field Operations to lead, develop, and oversee all field erection activities across our heavy commercial structural steel projects. This individual will drive field performance, workforce development, safety, and operational excellence while supporting our rapidly growing organization.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in steel erection or heavy commercial construction.
  • Minimum 5 years in a senior field leadership role (General Superintendent, Field Operations Manager, etc.).Certified Welding Inspector.
  • Strong knowledge of steel erection methods, crane operations, and rigging principles.
  • Experience managing multiple large, complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills across field and office teams.
  • Deep understanding of OSHA requirements and construction safety standards.
  • Comfortable at heights and using a harness for proper tie-off.
  • Familiarity with AISC Code of Standard Practice.
  • Ability to read structural steel drawings and details and understand the requirements of the project specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct leadership to Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews.
  • Oversee all steel erection activities including sequencing, crane operations, rigging plans, and equipment utilization.
  • Maintain consistent field execution across all projects while upholding GMF standards.
  • Monitor and manage field productivity, installation quality, and schedule performance.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits to assess progress, safety, and team needs.
  • Resolve field issues related to constructability, logistics, and installation methodology.
  • Partner with the Safety Department to maintain training, certifications, and corrective action programs.
  • Collaborate with Project Management, Engineering, Detailing, and Fabrication to ensure accurate work packages, lift plans, and erection sequencing.
  • Participate in schedule development, manpower planning, and project pre‑construction meetings.
  • Support inspection processes and final punch‑out completion.
