About The Position

The Director of Facilities Management provides strategic and operational leadership for plant operations within a large acute care hospital. This role ensures the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of all physical plant systems, including maintenance, utilities, life safety, and capital project execution. The Director is a key partner in supporting uninterrupted clinical operations, regulatory readiness, and long-term infrastructure planning.

Requirements

• 10+ years of healthcare facilities management experience in an acute care hospital
• 5+ years of progressive leadership experience managing facilities or plant operations teams
• Experience supporting a large acute care facility
• Strong knowledge of hospital building systems, utilities, and life safety infrastructure

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
• CHFM (Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager) preferred
• ASHE membership preferred (required within the first year of hire)
• Proven success leading capital projects and regulatory readiness initiatives

Responsibilities

• Lead all facility and plant operations functions, including maintenance, utilities, and life safety systems.
• Oversee preventive maintenance programs to ensure operational reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Direct and manage capital construction and renovation projects from planning through execution.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, and state regulatory requirements.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, and resource allocation.
• Provide leadership and oversight for engineering, maintenance, and facilities staff.
• Implement performance improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and safety.
• Serve as a key partner to hospital leadership on infrastructure planning and emergency preparedness.
