About The Position

Reporting to the Managing Director of Equity and Learning, the Director of Employee Experience & Development is a strategic leader and hands-on practitioner responsible for bringing our organization to life through engaging employee experiences, robust performance management systems, and comprehensive talent development strategies. This role leads initiatives that enhance engagement, strengthen organizational culture, support professional growth, and build the infrastructure needed to develop and retain an engaged workforce. You will take ownership of the organization's employee engagement strategy, including our multi-year Gallup partnership, and translate insights into creative programming that fosters connection, recognition, and belonging in a mostly remote culture. As the subject matter expert in performance management and learning strategy, you will work with Learning and Development, People Operations and organizational people partners to strengthen and optimize systems that drive accountability, growth, and alignment with organizational goals. You will also provide strategic guidance and mentorship while partnering closely with Marketing and Communication and Workplace Committee groups to ensure all people initiatives reflect our mission, values, and commitment to inclusivity and equity. This role requires a systems thinker who can take initiative, balance strategic vision with tactical execution, understands how to build people systems from the ground up while keeping the human experience at the center of everything we do. This role will also manage the Manager of Learning and Development and the Manager of Equity and Language Access.

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Organizational Development, Learning and Development or related field
  • 7+ years in employee engagement and talent development, with 5+ years focused on designing and executing robust engagement and talent programs
  • Proven expertise and deep understanding of performance management, employee engagement, and overall culture and how these elements shape how people feel, work, and excel in the workplace
  • Strong project management, communication, coaching, and analytical skills
  • Experience navigating remote and distributed environments, building connections, and belonging across time zones and teams
  • Effective collaboration skills and the ability to genuinely build credibility and trust across all levels of the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with union environments and labor-management partnerships
  • Proficiency in engagement platforms and learning management systems (Gallup and/or UKG experience are a plus)
  • Experience working with or deep understanding of caregivers, healthcare workers, direct care workforce, or frontline service populations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead employee engagement strategy, including Gallup partnership management, surveys, action planning, and continuous improvement
  • Design and collaborate on programs, events, and recognition initiatives that strengthen culture, foster connection, and celebrate achievements
  • Strengthen and optimize existing performance management infrastructure (currently managed through UKG), including enhancing review processes, implementing robust goal-setting frameworks and co-developing clear career pathways with HR
  • Lead learning and development strategy and provide direction for our leadership and staff development programs that are equity-centered and culturally responsive
  • Develop succession planning strategy for key leadership roles, ensuring diverse talent is identified, developed, and supported for advancement across the organization
  • Provide Strategic leadership and direction towards our localization vision, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Establish metrics to measure learning engagement, performance, and effectiveness
  • Use data from surveys, performance metrics, and evaluations to identify trends, inform strategies, and demonstrate ROI
  • Manage departmental budget and resource allocation to maximize impact and sustainability of engagement, performance, and learning initiatives
  • From time to time, perform other duties commensurate with the level of this position.
