About The Position

As the Director of Digital Design, you will lead the digital design team at First Horizon Bank, setting the vision and strategy for digital experiences that power our online and mobile banking platforms. You will oversee a team of UX / UI Designers, Researchers, and Content Strategists, ensuring that our digital experiences align with customer needs, regulatory requirements, and business objectives. This role requires a seasoned design leader with deep expertise in financial services UX, a passion for user-centered design, and a track record of building high-performing design teams in a complex, regulated industry.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in UX/UI, digital product design, or related fields.
  • 5+ years leading and building design teams in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Proven ability to design at scale, implementing UX best practices for web and mobile applications.
  • Deep understanding of human-centered design, research methodologies, and usability principles.
  • Experience with design systems, accessibility standards, and responsive frameworks.
  • Ability to influence executive leadership, articulating the impact of design on business outcomes.
  • Familiarity with financial services, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.

Responsibilities

  • Set the vision and strategic direction for digital design across consumer and small business banking.
  • Lead and mentor a team of designers, ensuring excellence in UX/UI design, research, and accessibility.
  • Drive a user-centered design culture, advocating for best-in-class digital experiences within the bank.
  • Oversee the digital design system, ensuring consistency across all digital platforms while allowing for innovation.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and Business Leaders to define and execute on digital banking priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility and regulatory standards (WCAG, ADA, financial industry best practices).
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, keeping the team informed of emerging trends, AI-driven experiences, and advancements in fintech UX.
