About The Position

The Director of Development will strategize, create, and implement year-round engagement plans that lead to effective and successful revenue generation to fuel our work and the work of our nonprofit partners. Activities include building relationships with community leaders and CEOs, organizing and implementing workplace campaigns, soliciting individual, corporate, and sponsorship gifts, responding to information requests from company representatives and donors, and representing UWO as needed. Additionally, this position will identify, recruit, and develop prospects for new business development on a year-round basis. This is a hands-on, in-the-community position while also being a data driven, results oriented leader. The Director of Development must be a quick learner and motivated person who will translate community needs into opportunities to make a difference through the financial support of UWO. This position may supervise part-time staff, interns, or volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or another related field is preferred, but not required.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in non-profit fundraising/development, sales, marketing, and/or other relevant experience is preferred.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and have a valid driver’s license/ID.

  • Teamwork/Collaboration: Ability to contribute and support the contributions of others in the pursuit of a common goal; ability to communicate the need for additional support; and ability to think creatively and contribute ideas.
  • Physical Demands: This position requires frequent lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting and reaching. Nice To Haves

  • Experience in account management is preferred.
  • Software knowledge including CRM databases (i.e., Andar), Wordpress, MobileCause, Zeffy and Canva preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Donor Management and Campaign Strategy
  • Lead with a development mindset to create and identify opportunities to diversify our fundraising portfolio.
  • Develop, manage, and energize relationships with current and potential donors, including company leaders, Employee Campaign Managers (ECMs), employees, and volunteers to increase giving and engagement with United Way.
  • Manage assigned workplace campaigns (including agency partner workplace campaigns), individual gift solicitation, donor prospecting, and donor relationships.
  • Cultivate, solicit and steward existing and new leadership donors and major gifts through personalized recognition and impact reporting.
  • Accompany UWO leadership and/or campaign cabinet volunteers to meetings with corporate partners to secure commitments for corporate giving, leadership giving, and employee workplace campaigns.
  • Review past giving and performance history for assigned companies and develop appropriate strategies for engagement and growth.
  • Apply for grants and/or corporate donations or sponsorships.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, including digital campaigns and direct mail campaigns.
  • Manage and co-lead training employee campaign managers at assigned workplace campaigns and campaign cabinet members.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of the United Way Campaign Kickoff Event and other campaign-related special events.
  • Data Management & Reporting
  • Utilize CRM database for entry and reporting, stay up to date with CRM database protocols, and identify opportunities for data to clean up.
  • Set goals and maintain accurate records to track progress in the campaign, while utilizing the CRM database.
  • Collaborate with the UniFi team to ensure accurate and timely collection and processing of pledges and payments. Respond to inquiries, support accurate data entry, reporting, and distribution of account information during annual fundraising efforts.
  • Manage donor-giving reports and related functions provided to UWO by third-party donation software used by UWO’s corporate partners.
  • Maintain and update third-party platforms for compliance.
  • Communication, Training & Support
  • Prepare and ensure timely, personalized gift acknowledgments to donors with special attention to leadership and major donors.
  • Assist with coordinating large direct mailings and segmented communications to targeted donor groups.
  • Support the Vice President of Development and UWO team daily to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Work productively and collegially with other employees and external constituencies.
  • Support the recruitment and training of volunteers including campaign cabinet members, ECMs, and special event volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and community impact teams to develop compelling donor facing materials and impact stories that inspire giving.
  • Representation & Public Engagement
  • Represent UWO professionally within the community, making presentations on behalf of the organization, and attending events.
  • Participate in early morning and/or evening meetings and events, as required.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, or other training to maintain professional development and continuously research fundraising best practices.
  • Miscellaneous
  • All other duties as assigned.
