About The Position

The NAE Director of Development & Membership is a full-time exempt professional position. The Director of Development & Membership works collaboratively with all NAE staff to fulfill our mission to honor God by connecting and representing evangelical Christians in the United States. The Director of Development & Membership leads the donor and member development efforts of the National Association of Evangelicals, engaging directly with donors and members to enhance and expand relationships that empower the work of the NAE and deepen a culture of philanthropy across the organization.

Requirements

  • Personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
  • Agreement to and affirmation of the NAE Statement of Faith and the NAE’s public policy document, “For the Health of the Nation: An Evangelical Call to Civic Responsibility
  • Regular attendance at an evangelical church and familiarity with the evangelical community
  • Minimum of three years of professional development experience
  • Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and flexibility to adjust to needs of a small office
  • Available to travel periodically
  • Capability and experience to fulfill responsibilities listed below

Responsibilities

  • Develop and articulate strategies, in collaboration with the NAE President and VP & COO, for development, membership, sponsorship and grants
  • Develop and implement strategies for the NAE to expand work in non-cash giving, planned giving and endowments
  • Facilitate meetings of development team of the board that advises development staff and engages board members in the development program
  • Create and implement annual fundraising strategies to solicit and upgrade donors, including direct mail and digital campaigns
  • Create content for fundraising solicitations (print and email), impact reports, acknowledgements and other development/membership outreach
  • Oversee and implement stewardship activities that increase donor retention, including gift acknowledgements, new donor welcome strategies, impact reports, and thank you notes/calls
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors who give $1,000+ annually (NAE Ambassadors Program)
  • Develop strategies to secure major gifts from individuals, families, churches, and organizations
  • Lead efforts to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors ($5,000 and above)
  • Manage and grow portfolio of major donors using best practices in moves management and relationally-centered fundraising
  • Oversee grant manager, and assist with writing and editing grant proposals and reports in collaboration with program staff and leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities
  • Serve as a contact for current and prospective members
  • Oversee efforts to acquire and retain members, including the development of promotional materials and ongoing outreach to current and lapsed members
  • Facilitate regular strategy meetings with senior leaders to identify and cultivate member prospects
  • Plan and execute cultivation events for major donor prospects
  • Plan and execute annual (virtual) Ambassadors Roundtable and Ambassadors reception
  • Plan and execute NAE Giving Day, including online prayer gathering
  • Plan and execute virtual open house for new members every 12-18 months
  • Produce monthly report (for President and VP & COO) of outreach efforts, charitable giving and membership dues payments
  • Maintain updated records in CRM database for managing donor and member relationships
  • Explore opportunities for upgrading CRM database
  • Utilize development software like ThankView as well as email marketing platforms to engage members and donors
