Griffin Media is seeking a Director of Local Content for KWTV News 9 Oklahoma City. Job Summary: The Director of Content will lead and manage our newsroom across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms. This role requires both strategic vision and daily tactical execution. You will build and execute a long-term content plan that maximizes our significant resources, strengthens our Oklahoma’s Own brand, grows audience on every platform, and maintains the highest journalistic standards. You will shape culture. You will develop leaders. You will set the tone. Weather isn’t a segment here; it’s a mission. As a legacy weather pioneer in the heart of Tornado Alley, we treat every forecast as consequential and every storm as breaking news. Our weather coverage is powered by an experienced team of high-energy meteorologists, a dedicated and well-resourced unit of storm chasers, and our own news chopper delivering critical coverage from every angle and on every platform when our viewers need us most.

Requirements

  • Formal education equivalent of BS degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field. Related experience will be evaluated and may be substituted as years of education.
  • A proven and humble newsroom leader with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
  • Must be competitive and collaborative.
  • Calm under pressure with a strong sense of urgency and a hunger to build something meaningful.
  • Digitally fluent with a focus on meeting the audience wherever it’s at today and into the future.
  • People-smart, recognizing a healthy and driven team is key to performance in all aspects.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to journalistic integrity.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work extended work schedules.
  • Frequent travel without advance notice.
  • Extensive highway travel required.
  • Occasional travel by helicopter required.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.
  • Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Capable of handling the physical and mental requirements including: ability to verbally communicate in English ability to read computer monitor information (words and data) ability to hear detailed spoken word ability to remain sedentary and to travel to work location ability to perform manual dexterity tasks with hands, fingers ability to analyze data, concentrate, reason, and write ability to perform under emotional stress ability to lift 10 pounds unaided ability to work rotating shifts and be on 24-hour call

Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operation of a multi-platform newsroom, delivering timely, accurate, and competitive journalism.
  • Set editorial vision and direction across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
  • Build, lead, and develop high-performing newsroom teams while shaping culture and accountability.
  • Drive short- and long-term content strategies that grow audience and strengthen quality.
  • Ensure the highest standards of journalistic ethics, legal compliance, and editorial integrity.
  • Use audience data and news trends to inform decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with leadership to align newsroom strategy with station goals.
  • Manage newsroom resources to maximize impact and efficiency.
  • Represent the newsroom in the community and across the industry.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.
