About The Position

The Director of Compliance is responsible for industry and regulatory compliance in respect of the responsibilities and obligations of the company and its various sites, including direction, strategic development, performance, and maintenance. Compliance oversight includes legal/statutory, professional duties, responsibilities and obligations relating to insert as applicable financial, health and safety, ISO etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in healthcare management, healthcare compliance, business law, or related field/equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience working in a compliance focused leadership role, preferably within the ambulatory, physician practice, dental, or healthcare spaces.
  • Must have proven Director level compliance experience at a Healthcare or Dental company.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OIG, OSHA, DEA, OCR, and other compliance and regulatory agencies and requirements across federal and state jurisdictions and topics.
  • Knowledge around policies and procedures with regards to controlled substances, including Drug Enforcement Agency federal and state matters.
  • Excellent legal and regulatory research skills and experience.
  • Ability to review and analyze regulatory environment changes.
  • Ability to review contract documents to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills: ability to communicate across a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks based on basic risk and materiality factors.
  • Experience working independently, diligently, and efficiently with limited instruction and in a team‐ oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to interact well with employees at many levels as well as external contacts such as legal counsel and regulators.
  • Must live locally in the Dallas metroplex or be willing to move to Dallas immediately as part of accepting an offer.
  • Must be able to travel, drive, and fly to oral surgery practices nationwide, as needed.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, stooping, turning, standing, bending, walking, hearing, reading, writing, and keyboarding, lifting up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing compliance initiatives over multiple locations/sites nationwide within a healthcare or dental network, primarily related: Security risk assessments related to information technology (especially related to cyber-security).
  • Controlled substances management and monitoring.
  • Workplace safety, primarily oral surgery clinics relating to OSHA matters.
  • Workplace security, primarily oral surgery clinics relating to workplace violence from both internal and external actors.
  • Healthcare claims coding and building.

Responsibilities

  • Primarily manage compliance functions surrounding 5 x core and general topics: IT Security Controlled Substances Workplace Violence Workplace Safety Healthcare Claims Coding
  • Establish, monitor, and/or iprove compliance standards and designs improvements to internal control structures across Beacon Oral Surgery practice locations, nationwide.
  • Performance compliance due diligence and post-closing compliance integration for Beacon oral surgery acquisitions, which average 3 – 5 each year.
  • Identify compliance improvement opportunities with a focus on OSHA, HIPAA, the CDC, Radiology and EPA biohazardous waste controls.
  • Conduct field audits with regards to compliance to include billing and controlled substances.
  • Minimize legal risks by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing regulations, recommending new procedures, and complying with legal requirements.
  • Design and implement internal policies to meet external regulations and company standards.
  • Manage internal audits which check for adherence with external policies.
  • Educate both senior management and lower-level staff on compliance issues.
  • Review documentation, observe clinic best practices, and speak with clinic team members about the various protocols.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records.
  • Control expenses to meet agreed budgetary controls.
  • Adhere to all organization policies and procedures.
  • Interact and co-operate with all members of the clinical and corporate support organization, suppliers, and patients clients/customers.
  • Build the agenda, presentation, and manage 3 – 4 per year compliance mtgs w/ Beacon’s Board of Directors and Senior Management (CEO, COO, CFO, SVP of HR, etc.) and 4 – 6 per year Clinical Governance Board meetings w/ Beacon’s Surgeons and Senior Management (CEO, COO, CFO, SVP of HR, etc.)
  • Monitor the compliance reporting hotline and engage, direct, and communicate reports as received.
