About The Position

The current opening for a director of community programs calls for an educator interested and experienced in internship and service learning programs. The director of community programs, who reports to the associate head of school, is responsible for all aspects of Wildwood School’s service learning program grades 6 through 12 and the internship program grades 11 and 12. This full-time, 12-month position also includes one section of middle or upper school advisory and other duties as called for. A note about advisory: This comprehensive program is a hallmark of a Wildwood education from grades 5 through 12. Advisors serve on a team with other advisors in the same grade level and travel together as a cohort with the same group of single-aged advisees for two years, culminating with the presentation of a Gateway . Curriculum for advisory is anchored by core principles and program strands, and it is refined each year to ensure relevance and richness for students.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of experience in environments working with students
  • BA or higher in education, human resources, communication, business, non-profit management, or a closely related field of study
  • Demonstrated passion for working with young people
  • Record of commitment to professional development and growth
  • Eagerness to contribute to the life of the school in and out of the classroom

Responsibilities

  • Develop the Community Involvement/Internship calendar for the year
  • Coordinate participation rotations for students
  • Meet with service learning sites to coordinate visits
  • Collaborate with transportation coordinator to arrange transportation for service learning sessions
  • Arrange, develop, and coordinate orientations for students
  • Coordinate with faculty and non-faculty supervisors for service learning and internship
  • Maintain regular and frequent communication with faculty and with work site supervisors
  • Maintain relationships with current internship hosts and build relationships with new/potential internship hosts
  • Problem-solve student and site issues as they arise
  • Maintain a regular site visitation schedule
  • Maintain accurate records for mid-year and year-end progress assessments and narrative reports
  • Create any forms necessary to ensure clear direction and accurate management of the service learning program
  • Develop curriculum as appropriate
  • Consider, evaluate, and create programs and systems that advance the goal of the service learning program e.g. brochures, internal website, efficient grading system, on-line student applications/reports
  • Share information internally and externally about Wildwood School’s service learning program (Back to School Nights, Open Houses, etc.)
