The Director of Clinical Services, Diagnostic Imaging provides strategic and operational leadership for Diagnostic Imaging services and manages key external partnerships and vendors. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through effective oversight of daily operations, access, staff leadership, equipment management, regulatory compliance, and safety standards. The Director serves as a liaison between Yale Health and its institutional partners, including Yale New Haven Health (YNHH), and vendors to ensure seamless coordination and delivery of all clinical services.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of clinical operations, vendor performance oversight, and healthcare compliance regulations.
Expertise in Diagnostic Imaging Operations, regulations and industry standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams.
Proficient in quality improvement, data analysis, and performance benchmarking.
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Bachelor's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Radiologic Sciences, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, with at least 3 years in imaging, laboratory, or ancillary services management.
Experience managing vendor relationships and service contracts in a clinical setting.
State of Connecticut licensure and certification by appropriate Radiology/Medical Imaging body through American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or Certified Radiology Administrator (CRA).
This role is a healthcare worker position. Healthcare workers (HCW) are defined as university employees working a healthcare setting who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients, human research subjects or infectious materials including body substance, contaminated medical supplies, devices and equipment, surfaces, or air. HCW have specific health requirements that must be met prior to starting work, including MMR vaccine or immunity, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or immunity, TB screening, COVID vaccine according to University policy, hepatitis B vaccine or immunity, and annual flu vaccination.

Nice To Haves

Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Business (MHA, MPH, MBA).
Familiarity with Epic EHR and imaging/lab management systems.

Responsibilities

Operational Oversight & Leadership
Direct and coordinate daily operations of Diagnostic Imaging, ensuring efficiency, quality, and continuity of care.
Manage the delivery and performance of vendor-based services.
Lead service planning, workflow optimization, and performance improvement initiatives across departments.
Staff Management & Development
Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to internal staff including all imaging technologists and administrative personnel.
Oversee recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and professional development.
Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous learning.
Equipment & Maintenance
Ensure imaging and ancillary care equipment is operational, well-maintained, and compliant with manufacturer, safety and regulatory standards.
Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, Facilities, and vendors to manage service contracts, inspections, and timely repairs to ensure safe, optimal performance and minimize downtime.
Coordinate equipment upgrades, changes, repair and purchases.
Track and monitor imaging trends and needs. Perform feasibility studies for insourcing and outsourcing imaging modalities.
Safety & Quality
Maintain and promote patient and staff safety through robust processes and adherence to internal policies and external standards.
Lead departmental quality improvement activities and safety audits, including incident reviews and action planning.
Promote compliance with infection control, radiation safety, and physical environment protocols.
Work with the Medical Director of DI to establish key quality clinical and operational indicators and leverage best practice standards.
Regulatory Requirements
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., DPH, FDA, ACR, CLIA), as well as accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, ACR).
Prepare for and lead regulatory surveys, inspections, and reporting processes for Diagnostic Imaging and vendor-managed services.
Communications & Collaboration
Serve as the key communication point for internal stakeholders, departmental staff, and external partners.
Develop and deliver operational reports, service updates, and improvement plans to senior leadership.
Collaborate with clinical departments and patient services to align ancillary care with broader institutional goals.
Coordinate and plan staff meetings, huddles, department meetings to support operational functions with the assistance of the team.
External Partnerships
Serve as primary liaison to Yale New Haven Health (YNHH) Diagnostic Imaging and ancillary services.
Manage vendor relationships including data review, service performance reviews and escalation processes.
Lead contract reviews and ensure vendor compliance with performance standards, patient experience expectations, and safety regulations.
Build upon relationships with Yale Medicine as part of any capital projects, business plans and operational efficiency to improve access while maintaining and improving cost efficiency.
Strategy and Fiduciary Accountability
Evaluate workflows & staffing models with an eye towards operational efficiency and best practice standards.
Evaluate current utilization trends (internal, external), establish KPIs for insourcing external referrals.
Build upon the strategic roadmap for Diagnostic imaging including potential expansion projects to improve access, while maintaining cost efficiency.
Work with finance and key partners (internal or external) to build business plans for future capital projects to improve access.
