About The Position

Spearhead strategic initiatives while leading a high-performing team at one of Washington’s most influential law firms. Wiley Rein, an internationally recognized law firm known for its complex regulatory counsel, is looking for a new Director of Business Development to join a highly visible and collaborative group based exclusively in Washington, D.C. Working closely with a widely respected Chief Marketing Officer, the Director will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, leading high-impact initiatives, combining strategic direction with hands-on execution to advance the firm’s business development and client growth priorities. The role in action: Partner with firm leadership to shape business development strategies, launch new client teams, and focus on meaningful, measurable results. Manage, mentor and support a strong Business Development team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, trust, and collaboration. Boost client growth by supporting retention efforts, spotting new opportunities, and guiding attorneys through the full pursuit process. Oversee key operations, including lateral attorney integration, the business development coaching program, RFP management, and cross-functional collaboration, while staying plugged into practice group priorities. Turn market and competitive insights into smart, targeted strategies that strengthen the firm’s position and enable new growth opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bring 12+ years of experience in marketing and business development, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in a law firm environment.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field.
  • Exhibit emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, crisp communication skills, and attention to detail, with a collaborative, solution-oriented mindset.
