About The Position

The Director of Business Development is a strategic growth leader responsible for shaping and executing VaLogic Bio’s go-to-market strategy across key life science segments. This role focuses on building long-term partnerships, developing new markets, and creating scalable, recurring revenue programs in close collaboration with executive leadership and service line leaders. The Director will primarily lead through influence across a matrixed organization, aligning marketing, operations, and service lines around shared growth priorities while positioning VaLogic Bio to rapidly scale and hire a high-performing sales organization over time. This position maintains accountability for revenue and profitability while emphasizing market development, strategic relationships, and organizational scale rather than transactional sales management.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in life science preferred.
  • Experience in life science services with at least a combined 10 years of business development, selling, marketing, and management experience.
  • Experience leading strategy, business planning, marketing, and business development initiatives in a services-driven environment, ideally including building or scaling a commercial function.
  • Strong history of meeting and exceeding revenue and profit objectives and contributing to significant organizational growth and success.
  • Excellent mastery of business development methodologies, account and territory planning, and modern commercial tools (CRM, marketing automation, analytics), with sound knowledge of the life science market and key industry players.
  • Proven ability to design and execute go-to-market strategies, build partnerships, and grow recurring revenue in a life science or related technical services environment.
  • Demonstrated exceptional leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills with a strong track record of leading through influence across a matrixed organization.
  • Client-facing exceptional communicator and strong customer-focused relationship builder, comfortable engaging with executives and technical stakeholders.
  • Skilled in providing technical service and product demonstrations, video conferencing, consultative discovery, and using CRMs, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • A positive "can do" attitude; ethical, tactful, and diplomatic.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Growth Strategy and Strategic Partnerships
  • Define and execute a clear business development and market expansion roadmap that supports VaLogic Bio’s long-term growth objectives and future sales team build-out.
  • Deliver on growth and profitability objectives by developing new markets, deepening strategic accounts, and building a healthy long-term opportunity pipeline.
  • Focus on shifting the business toward a recurring revenue model through Master Service Agreements, long-term (1+ year) service contracts, and collaboration with marketing to drive repeatable business.
  • Manage the business development budget and resources in collaboration with executive leadership, building the commercial foundation for a scalable sales organization.
  • Contribute to and participate in strategy development work, identifying market trends and growth opportunities in collaboration with operational and product development teams, based on market studies and client feedback.
  • Assess the client portfolio to build and implement a key account structure that supports long-term partnership growth.
  • Identify and prioritize strategic market segments, alliances, and channel partnerships that align with VaLogic Bio’s vision and service roadmap.
  • Drive automation and digital enablement through HubSpot and other commercial tools to increase awareness of VaLogic, improve efficiency in the business development lifecycle, and create scalable processes for future sales hires.
  • Contribute to marketing communications to increase the company’s visibility and promote its image; participate in trade shows, conferences, and other professional events as a company ambassador, and develop targeted strategies for high-growth opportunities.
  • Achieve and maintain high customer satisfaction throughout the business development process so that every customer is a positive reference, utilizing NPS and promoting structured feedback with clients.
  • Own the Business Development Lifecycle
  • Lead through influence across a matrixed organization, aligning marketing, operations, and service lines around a unified growth strategy and clear market positioning.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and commercial guidance to colleagues involved in client-facing activities, helping establish best-practice processes that can later be scaled across a dedicated sales team.
  • Act as the senior point of escalation and strategic guidance for high-value opportunities and complex negotiations, partnering closely with service line leaders.
  • Focus on scaling the organization through improving and streamlining business development processes, establishing repeatable playbooks, KPIs, and tools that will support rapid onboarding of future sales hires.
  • Ensure market messages are consistent regarding services provided and maintain value-based pricing consistent with company goals.
  • Foster strong pipeline hygiene and visibility, helping the organization move relationships through the funnel utilizing HubSpot and other tools.
  • Serve as a senior commercial advisor to service line leaders, shaping deal structures, key terms, and account strategies for complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities.
  • Drive Revenue Outcomes and Growth Analytics
  • Ensure that individual and collective growth objectives are met, including revenue, margin, market share, and opportunity funnel development.
  • Ensure reporting to the VP of Sales by designing and updating dashboards presenting indicators such as sales volumes, changes versus prior periods, profit, margin rate, average transaction value, conversion rates, and key customer experience metrics (satisfaction, intention to repurchase, recommendation/NPS). These will be developed through HubSpot dashboards and marketing partnerships for data collection.
  • Use data-driven insight to refine the business development strategy, redirecting the action plan when necessary and recommending optimizations to leadership.
  • Provide input on future sales organization design, roles, and territory structure based on observed market demand, pipeline dynamics, and customer feedback.
