About The Position

The Director of Business Development will play a key role in identifying and developing new business opportunities. This includes searching for and managing public bid opportunities, analyzing and responding to RFPs and RFQs, cold calling potential clients, and supporting follow-up activities with key accounts. This position requires a self-starter with excellent organizational skills, a strong understanding of the telecommunications or construction industry, and a passion for business development.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in sales, business development, or bid management in telecommunications or utilities construction.
  • Familiarity with construction methods utilized in the construction of optical fiber / coaxial / copper-based communications networks.
  • Familiarity with public procurement platforms (e.g., Bid Net, SAM.gov, state/local portals).
  • Strong writing and communication skills; experience drafting proposal responses a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), and online bid management tools.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple deadlines.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Communications, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively search for public bid opportunities through local, state, and federal procurement portals.
  • Actively search for private bid opportunities through key account internal supplier portals.
  • Track and evaluate bid opportunities to determine fit and competitive position.
  • Conduct outbound outreach (calls/emails/LinkedIn) to potential clients to uncover new business opportunities.
  • Assist in lead generation efforts through market research and targeted outreach.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality, compliant responses to RFPs, RFQs, and ITBs.
  • Analyze bid request documents (including construction prints) to create bid response templates (rake sheets)
  • Work closely with project managers, subcontractors and leadership to gather pricing and technical input for bids.
  • Contact sub-contractors directly for pricing in various regions. Maintain ongoing sub-contractor list, pricing details, and rankings for future bids.
  • Maintain and organize proposal content, templates, certifications, and documentation.
  • Support follow-up activities and touchpoints with existing clients and key accounts.
  • Schedule meetings, presentations, and site visits for senior sales and operations staff.
  • Maintain CRM data and support accurate sales reporting and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales leadership to align messaging and outreach efforts.
  • Recommend improvements to bid tracking, submission workflows, and sales processes.
  • Attend industry networking events, conferences, and pre-bid meetings as needed.
