About The Position

MDK is seeking a Director of Accounting to play a key leadership role in overseeing the firm’s financial infrastructure, and ensuring the integrity of all accounting processes. This position is responsible for managing core accounting operations, driving process improvements, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards across multiple entities. The Director partners closely with senior leadership to deliver accurate financial reporting, support strategic decision-making, and lead a high-performing accounting team that reflects the firm’s values.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or equivalent.
  • Certified Public Accountant certification required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in areas of finance or accounting, with at least 2 years’ experience in public accounting, and 5 years in leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and month-end/year-end closing process.
  • Proven success leading audits and ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and tax regulations.
  • Prior experience in a multi-entity and multi-location organization.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Possess a high level of professional ethics and integrity, commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Must be able to work in our Columbus office three days per week, or more as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow management, bank reconciliations, and review of income statements and balance sheets.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of all company transactions and assets across multiple entities.
  • Establish and uphold strong internal controls over accounting processes.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare financial analyses, operating metrics, and performance benchmarks to support business decision-making.
  • Review and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to promote efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Manage the annual audit process and coordinate preparation of tax documentation in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Partner with the Executive Director of Finance and Accounting, as well as the Billing and FP&A teams, on forecasting, budgeting, and process improvement initiatives aligned with firm goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, including recruiting, training, and performance management to foster professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on payroll activities.
  • Stay current on accounting standards, tax regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in all accounting functions.
