Role reports to: Head of Global Packaging R&D Location: North America, United States, New Jersey, Summit Work Location: Hybrid What you will do This role leads the North America Self Care Packaging team in delivering the regional innovation pipeline and new packaging launches across iconic brands such as Listerine, Band-Aid, Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec, Benadryl, and Pepcid. The leader defines packaging strategy and formats in partnership with R&D, Marketing, and Supply Chain to ensure regulatory‑compliant, consumer‑centric, and brand‑building solutions. They will manage and develop a team of packaging experts while providing technical direction across new package development, material selection, manufacturing changes, and continuous improvement. The role requires close collaboration with global packaging, regulatory, safety, analytical, and Quality partners to ensure technical rigor, as well as cross-functional alignment to optimize packaging materials, processes, and cost. This leader also influences resource allocation and drives talent development to ensure a high-performing, future-ready team.

Requirements

  • Specific to Self Care Regulatory Compliance: FDA, Drug Facts, child-resistant (CR), tamper-evident (TE) design and testing requirements for child and senior friendly use.
  • Risk & Safety: Human-factors engineering, dosing accuracy, material restrictions
  • Technical Rigor: Barrier science, stability, leachables/extractables, compatibility
  • Quality Systems: GMP validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Documentation & Controls: Regulatory compliance and safety driven documentation and change controls
  • Design Under Constraint: Deliver consumer experience within strict materials, safety, design and labeling rules
  • Regulatory component qualification: Component qualification expertise as per FDA CFR and ICH protocols
  • General Package Development Capabilities Technical proficiency to shape team deliverables and assess/ manage risk.
  • Expertise in understanding of packaging development work process and packaging molding technologies.
  • Confident and articulate communicator (both written and verbal), with the ability to convey and present complex information to others clearly and logically
  • Strong leadership and critical thinking skills
  • Lead team to deliver innovation project pipeline, able to manage multiple simultaneous priorities.
  • Knowledge of external vendor ecosystem and capabilities.
  • Knowledge of new packaging industry trends.
  • Ability to continuously develop self and team for technical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a matrix organization, managing multiple complex projects, priorities, and systems simultaneously.
  • Able to re-prioritize in an ever-changing environment
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build effective working relationships at all levels in the organization
  • Education: BS/ MS/PhD in Packaging /Mechanical/ Polymer/Plastics/Chemical Engineering
  • Work experience: 10+ years of package development in regulatory drug products, oral care, food and beverage

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the X-functional team to lead new package development based on human factors engineering, strict safety and labelling rules, and regulatory standards while meeting cost targets.
  • Has expertise in integrating materials & process knowledge when leveraging digital tools such as CAD, modelling & simulation to streamline package development and guide the team to deliver right-first-time initiatives.
  • Manages the identification of new materials and structures within regulatory guidelines, and plans studies with the appropriate cross-functional team to validate consumer experience, compliance risk and child/senior safety impacts of the new changes.
  • Maintains accountability for best practices throughout product and process design.
  • Implements methods for measuring performance to monitor the technical integrity of products.
  • Lead, with help from the team, development of packaging development plans and drive alignment with the regional teams.
  • Monitor and set up a high-efficiency team and lead team to deliver regional self-care innovation pipeline.
