About The Position

The Intrepid Museum seeks a strategic and relationship-driven leader to serve as Director of Institutional Partnerships. Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, this role is pivotal in securing philanthropic support from foundations and other institutional funders. The Director will craft and execute strategies that strengthen partnerships, expand funding opportunities, and advance the Museum’s mission to inspire, educate, and honor our history. This position is ideal for a proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives on building meaningful relationships, developing compelling proposals, and driving impact through collaboration.

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years in development with a strong track record in grant writing and institutional fundraising.
  • Exceptional writing and editing ability to craft persuasive proposals and donor materials that clearly convey the Museum’s mission and impact.
  • Broad understanding of fundraising principles and the full gift cycle, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced nonprofit environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs); experience with Tessitura or similar CRM systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and Implement Strategy: Lead the creation of an annual plan to cultivate and secure funding from institutional partners aligned with the Museum’s strategic priorities.
  • Fundraising Leadership: Serve as a frontline fundraiser and relationship manager for foundation partners, ensuring exceptional stewardship and engagement.
  • Portfolio Growth: Identify new funding opportunities and expand the foundation portfolio to meet revenue goals, creating tailored strategies for each relationship.
  • Grant Development: Prepare and submit persuasive grant proposals, letters of intent, and renewal requests; oversee timely reporting and compliance.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with program staff to align funding opportunities with organizational needs, develop budgets, and participate in donor meetings.
  • Monitor and Report Progress: Review fundraising progress with leadership and maintain accurate reporting schedules for narrative and financial updates.
  • Represent the Museum: Serve as an ambassador for the Museum’s mission in meetings with foundation representatives and other external stakeholders.
  • Stay Ahead of Trends: Track developments in philanthropy and share insights to inform strategy and uncover new opportunities.
  • Data and Impact Analysis: Collect and analyze data on funded programs to demonstrate outcomes and inform future proposals.
  • Cross-Departmental Engagement: Participate in interdepartmental committees and facilitate quarterly grants meetings.
  • Event Support: Assist with Institutional Advancement and Museum events as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
