About The Position

Reporting to the Executive Vice President/Chief HR and Compliance Officer, the HR Director will oversee the personnel, operations and financial activities of the Human Resources Department consisting of recruiting, wage and salary administration, employee benefits, personnel records, personnel systems, and Employee /Labor Relations. Ensures development of Human Resource goals and objectives, policies, procedures and budgets consistent with hospital, governmental and licensing requirements.

Requirements

  • Full working knowledge of personnel practices to include employment and related legal regulations. Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with all levels of hospital personnel and to manage the activities of a group of professional and clerical employees.
  • Verbal and written skills to communicate effectively to diverse populations. Management and leadership skills to enable assigned departments to meet goals that contribute to overall success of the hospital.
  • Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvement and problem resolution. Negotiation skills to persuasively articulate and control Human Relations issues.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Industrial Relations, or Human Resources.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible varied Human Resources experience, including several personnel functions.

Nice To Haves

  • JD in Business and Compliance preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR Certification Preferred.
  • Experience working with unions is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develops long and short-term goals and objectives for human resources department. Monitors activities to ensure that goals and objectives are met.
  • Provides expert guidance to all levels of Hospital management of Human Resources matters.
  • Develops and distributes reports on various Human Resources activities.
  • Develops, submits for approval and administers annual budgets, in accordance with hospital guidelines which reflect personnel, capital equipment, and supplies for the human resources department.
  • Attends mandatory in services.
  • Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate education/organization activities.
  • Directs the maintenance and control of personnel files and information systems consistent with hospital guidelines. Responsible for the computerized input of personnel transactions.
  • Administers the hospital wide grievance procedure and discipline procedure.
  • Counsels management regarding interpretation of various personnel policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Directs recruitment selection, job movement and outplacement activities. Oversees the interview and selection of middle and top-level management personnel.
  • Oversees new hire employee orientation as well as annual mandatory orientation programs.
  • Hires, orients, trains, directs, evaluates and when necessary disciplines or discharges subordinate personnel. Reviews recommendations of administrators, managers, and supervisors regarding Human Resources decisions.
  • Directs the investigation of received Civil Rights complaints and participates in conciliation meetings.
  • Develops, maintain, revise personnel policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and consistency with hospital philosophy and objectives.
  • Follow established emergency, infection control and/or universal precautions procedures as required.
  • Directs administration of total compensation and evaluation programs, including wage and salary and employee benefit programs including medical, life, vacation accrual, leave of absence, tuition reimbursement, etc.
  • Manages own time in a productive and reliable manner completing work assignments on time.
  • Completes appropriate volume of work while maintaining quality standards.
  • Organize work procedures to generate acceptable levels of productivity.
  • Adjust work schedule to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Promotes guest relations; anticipates and responds to needs of others; provides assistance in a courteous responsive manner; treats others with care a respect while maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dignity. Maintains a professional appearance and a clean, safe environment.
  • Communicates in a professional manner emphasizing objectivity and nonjudgmental viewpoints.
  • Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
