About The Position

The Director of Hangar/Line Maintenance serves as a required management position under 14 CFR Part 121 and is responsible for the overall leadership, supervision, and operational control of aircraft line and hangar maintenance activities within the assigned region. This position ensures all maintenance is performed in accordance with the Company’s FAA-approved Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP), General Maintenance Manual (GMM), and Safety Management System (SMS), as well as all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations. The Director has the authority to ensure that maintenance activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and approved procedures, and that aircraft are maintained in an airworthy condition.

Requirements

  • Valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings required (14 CFR Part 65).
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a position responsible for returning aircraft to service in accordance with 14 CFR Part 121.
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience maintaining the same category and class of aircraft operated by the Company.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with FAA regulations including, but not limited to, 14 CFR Parts 65, 91, and 121.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience maintaining large aircraft within an air carrier operating under Part 121.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise authority consistent with 14 CFR Part 121, the Company General Maintenance Manual (GMM), and Safety Management System (SMS) Manual to ensure all maintenance is performed in accordance with FAA regulations and approved procedures.
  • Safety accountability and authority regarding the acceptance of risk and establishment of Risk Controls is detailed in the SMS Manual and Safety Manual, Chapter 4.
  • Authority to Remove Aircraft from Service: Has the authority and responsibility to remove any aircraft from service when the condition of the aircraft, maintenance status, or safety concerns indicate the aircraft is not in an airworthy condition or does not meet company or regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure personnel are properly trained, qualified, and authorized in accordance with 14 CFR Parts 65 and 121, company training programs, and GMM procedures.
  • Supervise and direct all maintenance functions related to line and hangar aircraft operations.
  • Ensure aircraft are approved for return to service only by appropriately authorized personnel in accordance with 14 CFR §121.709, GMM procedures, and company authorization lists.
  • Provide oversight of Required Inspection Items (RII), ensuring inspections are performed by authorized personnel and properly documented in accordance with the GMM and FAA requirements.
  • Provide oversight of RVSM (Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum) maintenance and ensure compliance with RVSM program requirements, including aircraft configuration, documentation, and continued airworthiness.
  • Provide oversight of ETOPS (Extended Operations) maintenance, ensuring compliance with ETOPS maintenance and reliability requirements as defined in company manuals and OpSpecs (if applicable).
  • Direct ground support equipment quantity needs and maintenance requirements in coordination with the Manager of Planning & Program.
  • Provide oversight of maintenance providers, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, FAA regulations, GMM procedures, and company standards.
  • Identify, evaluate qualifications, and approve maintenance providers in accordance with company vendor control procedures.
  • Recruit, hire, and develop aircraft maintenance technicians in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure tooling, equipment, and technical publications are current, controlled, and available as required by the GMM.
  • Monitor staffing levels and scheduling to ensure adequate maintenance coverage and operational control.
  • Review overtime usage and implement scheduling adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency and compliance.
  • Ensure all maintenance records and documentation are accurate, complete, and maintained in accordance with 14 CFR §121.380, GMM procedures, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and immediately address any safety, compliance, or hazard reporting concerns through the SMS.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with other departments and external providers to ensure operational continuity.
  • Analyze operational delays, mechanical interruptions, reliability data, and SMS reports, implementing corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
