About The Position

Directs, plans, and organizes the staff and operations engaged in organization pre-award sponsored program activities. Supports research leadership regarding the identification of annual system priorities for grants and contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Certified Research Administrator(CRA) or Certified Pre Award Research Administrator(CPRA), required.
  • 8-12 years of technical experience and 7+ years of leadership / management experience, required.
  • Experience using sponsor electronic systems such as Grants.gov, NIH eRA Commons/ASSIST, NSF Research.gov, NSPIRES, Grants Solutions, Huron Click, InfoEd, or Cayuse.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, sponsor, and institutional policies.
  • Experience with Pre- and Post-Award Management in government, nonprofit, or academic settings.
  • Strong leadership in a research administration environment, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A proactive problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Experience managing large or interdisciplinary proposal submissions.
  • Experience developing and delivering training to research administrators and researchers.
  • Familiarity with compliance issues related to research, such as conflict of interest, export controls, human subjects, or cost sharing.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management software (e.g., Monday.com, Asana, or similar).
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a Grants Management group by communication with and developing staff members, and building consensus for programs and goals that support a business, function or geographic area. Develops and articulates a short-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.
  • Directs operation and management of pre-award and research development activities for the organization.
  • Negotiates agreements with federal, state, corporate, and foundation sponsors on behalf of the organization.
  • Partners with Finance to ensure smooth transitions from pre-award to post-award and post-award to close-out.
  • Participates in transition from paper to electronic pre- and post-award administration Develops and reports metrics for pre-award activities for the organization.
  • Serves as liaison to center heads and departments to ensure positive service orientation for the office.
  • Develops appropriate internal and external training for and organization employees.
  • Aligns research and non-research efforts with organization priorities.
  • Serves as pre-award liaison and partner to the organization foundation.
