About The Position

We are seeking an outstanding attorney with 12+ years of experience in global labor and employment law to join our dynamic legal team as Senior Director, Global Labor and Employment Counsel. This is an exciting opportunity to join ChargePoint and report to the General Counsel. This person will join a talented and collaborative Legal team. This role will have a tremendous opportunity to partner with ChargePoint’s People team to positively impact and influence ChargePoint’s inclusive and dynamic culture. The position will be responsible for building and leading our global labor and employment compliance programs and analyzing legal requirements and providing guidance on applicable labor and employment laws globally. As a cross-functional team member, you will work with multiple stakeholders and advise on a wide variety of matters. This position requires a team player who is business oriented and will provide exceptional work product in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in employment law (preferably a combination of law firm and in-house practice)
  • Position requires a Juris Doctorate and strong preference for membership in good standing with a State bar
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex legal issues in non-legal language
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple deadlines
  • A good sense of humor and ability to influence
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

Responsibilities

  • Provide pragmatic, risk-based advice to ChargePoint’s People team and business leaders on all day-to-day aspects of employment-related matters (recruiting, hiring, contingent workers, wage and hour, compensation, leaves of absence, performance management, employee relations and investigations, and terminations).
  • Partner closely with ChargePoint’s People team on employee relations matters and investigations to ensure prompt and thorough follow-through.
  • Partner closely with ChargePoint’s People team to establish and implement investigatory strategy/approach, corrective action measures, and employee discipline processes.
  • Provide oversight of international employment matters, including employment contracts, and works council matters.
  • Partner with ChargePoint’s People team to build scalable processes and templates.
  • Provide ChargePoint’s People team with guidance on ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, and ERISA matters.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local and state laws as it relates to entities where ChargePoint has an established business and people presence.
  • Draft and edit key employment-related documents (offer letters, agreements, severance plans, etc.).
  • Anticipate and identify legal risks related to employment policies and decisions, and propose creative and effective solutions to address those risks.
  • Monitor and analyze regulations, case law and legal and policy developments relevant to employment law, as well as evolving best practices.
  • Conduct employee training on harassment, performance management, and other topics.
  • Manage administrative charges with local agencies and handle employment litigation matters and employment-related disputes.
  • Manage business critical legal, employment and compliance projects on an as needed basis.
  • Manage outside counsel on labor and employment matters, as necessary.
  • Assist with special projects, as needed.
