Join our mission as our next Director of Field Application Services - East. The Director of Field Application Services (FAS) leads a high-performing team of Field Application Specialists responsible for clinical, scientific, and technical support across the diagnostic testing portfolio. This role is accountable for enabling successful pre- and post-sales adoption of products, driving customer satisfaction, supporting revenue growth including selling/driving menu expansion, and serving as the clinical and scientific voice of the customer back to the organization. The Director partners closely with Sales, Service, Product Management, R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Marketing to ensure consistent, compliant, and value-driven customer experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in diagnostics, laboratory medicine, or life sciences, including field-facing roles.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing remote or field-based teams.
  • Experience supporting molecular, immunoassay, chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, or point-of-care diagnostics strongly preferred.
  • Travel: Up to 50% domestic overnight travel.
  • This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Development • Build, lead, and develop a geographically distributed team of Field Application Specialists.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, coaching plans, and career development pathways.
  • Drive a culture of scientific excellence, customer focus, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure appropriate onboarding, training, and certification of FAS team members.
  • Customer & Commercial Enablement • Partner with Sales leadership to support pre-sales activities including product demonstrations, clinical consultations, workflow assessments, and competitive positioning.
  • Oversee post-sales implementation support, validation assistance, and optimization of customer workflows.
  • Act as an executive escalation point for complex clinical or technical customer issues.
  • Build strong relationships with key accounts, KOLs, and strategic customers.
  • Strategy & Operational Excellence • Define and execute the Field Application Services strategy aligned with business objectives and growth priorities.
  • Develop scalable processes, tools, and metrics (KPIs) to measure effectiveness, utilization, and customer impact.
  • Optimize territory coverage, resource allocation, and engagement models.
  • Partner with Operations to forecast headcount and budget needs.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership • Serve as the voice of the customer by translating field insights into actionable input for Product Management, R&D, and Marketing.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory to ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., CLIA, CAP, FDA, ISO).
  • Support clinical studies, evaluations, and evidence-generation activities as needed.
  • Align with Service and Support teams to ensure seamless handoffs and issue resolution.
  • Training & Knowledge Management • Oversee development and delivery of internal and external training programs, including sales training and customer education.
  • Ensure the FAS team remains current on scientific advancements, product updates, and competitive intelligence.
  • Establish best practices and standardized documentation across the function.
