Purpose of the Role As part of the Innovation & Advanced Development team, the Director of Engineering (Consumer Devices) provides strategic and hands-on engineering leadership for dōTERRA’s device innovation portfolio. Partnering closely with the Executive Vice President of Device Innovation, this role owns engineering execution across multiple device development programs, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and manufacturable products that advance dōTERRA’s device-enabled wellness strategy. This role oversees development across device systems, electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering, while serving as a key technical interface with contract manufacturers and external suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles.
  • Proven experience overseeing device, electrical, mechanical, and firmware development for consumer hardware or connected devices.
  • Strong system-level engineering expertise, including hardware/firmware integration and design for manufacturability.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with contract manufacturers and global suppliers through mass production.
  • Proven ability to build, lead, and scale high-performing engineering teams in matrixed environments.
  • Excellent technical communication, decision-making, and executive collaboration skills.
  • Ability to execute effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments across multiple concurrent programs.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Strategy & Leadership Provide strategic engineering leadership across device innovation programs, translating product vision into scalable technical roadmaps and execution plans.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams spanning device systems, electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering.
  • Establish clear technical standards, development frameworks, and accountability for engineering deliverables.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align engineering priorities with product, business, and innovation strategies.
  • Device, Electrical, Mechanical & Firmware Development Oversee end-to-end development across device systems, electrical, mechanical, and firmware disciplines from concept and architecture through prototyping, validation, manufacturing readiness, and launch.
  • Drive system-level design decisions balancing performance, user experience, reliability, regulatory requirements, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Ensure tight integration between hardware and firmware to deliver robust, reliable, and scalable device platforms.
  • Provide senior technical guidance on complex design challenges, architectural tradeoffs, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Cross-Functional, Supplier & Manufacturing Collaboration Collaborate closely with industrial design, UX, product management, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, legal, and marketing teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
  • Act as the primary engineering interface with contract manufacturers and suppliers, including supplier selection, technical alignment, design for manufacturability (DFM), and production readiness.
  • Lead technical reviews, design transfers, and ongoing performance management with external manufacturing and development partners.
  • Partner with program and project management to support schedules, dependencies, and technical decision-making.
  • Technical Governance, Quality & Compliance Establish and enforce engineering best practices, documentation standards, and formal design review processes across all engineering disciplines.
  • Oversee design verification and validation (DVT/PVT), reliability testing, failure analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ensure devices meet applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements across global markets.
  • Operational Excellence & Financial Stewardship Own engineering resourcing plans, budgets, and development investments, including tooling and supplier-related costs.
  • Proactively identify technical, supplier, and manufacturing risks and drive mitigation plans to protect timelines, cost, and product integrity.
  • Continuously improve engineering processes and the device development lifecycle to support scale and future innovation.
