The Director of Ecommerce is responsible for driving the strategic growth and operational success of direct-to-consumer Shopify stores for music artists and entertainment brands. This role leads a team of US-based E-Commerce Store Managers and works cross-functionally with Marketing, Production, Finance, Creative and Fulfillment partners to deliver high-performing online stores that align with each artist’s creative vision and commercial goals. The Director combines program management capability with deep ecommerce expertise to ensure successful campaign execution across album releases, touring cycles, seasonal initiatives, and fan-focused product launches. This role provides leadership across merchandising strategy, digital marketing coordination, operational planning, and platform optimization, ensuring seamless execution across multiple stakeholders and global markets.

Requirements

  • 7+ years ecommerce experience, preferably in music, entertainment, fashion, or direct-to-consumer retail.
  • Strong Shopify expertise and understanding of ecommerce ecosystems, tools, and integrations.
  • HTML, CSS, Liquid, Photoshop, UX knowledge / experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong marketing and project management capabilities, including experience coordinating complex campaigns across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, product development, operations, and fulfillment teams.
  • Strong understanding of merchandising strategy, customer behavior, and conversion optimization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with artists, management teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Data-driven mindset with ability to interpret performance metrics and translate insights into action.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Asana, Klaviyo.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of US-based Ecommerce Store Managers responsible for the day-to-day management of artist stores.
  • Provide clear direction, prioritization, and workflow structure to support successful execution of ecommerce initiatives across multiple artists and campaigns.
  • Partner closely with the Ecommerce Operations Manager, the Production team, and fulfillment partners to ensure alignment across product availability, ordering workflows, inventory planning, and customer experience.
  • Partner with Ecommerce Operations to establish scalable processes that improve coordination across marketing, merchandising, operations, and supply chain functions.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders including Finance, A&R, Production, Marketing, and Artist Management teams.
  • With oversight from the VP, Ecommerce and support from Marketing, work with store managers to implement merchandising strategy across Shopify stores to drive revenue growth, conversion optimization, and customer engagement.
  • Guide store managers in the development of product assortments in collaboration with Licensee, Tour, Wholesale, and internal product teams.
  • Oversee the store manager’s development of seasonal and campaign-based merchandising strategies aligned to album cycles, touring schedules, anniversaries, holiday, and key retail moments.
  • Ensure stores reflect artist brand positioning and creative direction while maximizing commercial performance through PDP and SEO optimization.
  • The Director may manage up to five Ecommerce stores, depending on need.
  • Support the store manager’s collaboration with Marketing on cross-functional planning and execution of ecommerce campaigns across email, SMS, paid media, social, and onsite channels, as well as subscriber acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Ensure ecommerce timelines align with broader artist marketing plans, release schedules, and promotional windows.
  • Support creation of marketing briefs, asset needs, and campaign calendars that enable artist team approvals and efficient execution.
  • Use performance insights to optimize promotional strategies and improve results across channels.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of Shopify store architecture across both front-end user experience and back-end configuration, including themes, navigation structure, product set up, integrations, analytics tracking, and app ecosystem.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to internal teams or external designers and developers to ensure stores are launched efficiently and aligned with brand, marketing, and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement ecommerce tools, integrations, and technologies that enhance functionality and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of ecommerce trends, fan behavior insights, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Partner with Ecommerce Operations Manager, A&R, the Production team, and fulfillment providers to ensure strong coordination across product ordering, inventory availability, and delivery timelines.
  • Support development of improved workflows related to product ordering, invoicing, and inventory planning.
  • Collaborate with warehouse partners to ensure accurate receiving, stock availability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure global stores are maintained in partnership with international teams.
  • Manage oversight of store and product launch protocol in partnership with the E-Commerce Operations Manager.
  • Review and support global chart reporting during critical album release weeks.
  • Attend weekly calls with fulfillment teams and third-party partners.
  • Support automated reporting with fulfillment centers and Looker/Glew.
  • Support invoice review and submission for ecommerce-related accounting efforts.
  • Support forecasting and budget planning for ecommerce initiatives.
  • Work with VP, Ecommerce and store managers to evaluate performance, identify revenue opportunities, and improve profitability.
  • Monitor KPIs including conversion rate, AOV, revenue growth, campaign performance, and customer acquisition metrics.
