A day in the life of a Director, Direct-to-Consumer Merchandising at The North Face looks a little like this. The Director of Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) Merchandising is a strategic leader responsible for driving the merchandising vision, strategy, and execution across all DTC channels—including owned retail stores and eCommerce. This role ensures that product assortments, pricing strategies, and inventory plans align with brand goals, consumer insights, and financial targets. The ideal candidate is a data-driven merchant with a deep understanding of consumer behavior, market trends, and omnichannel dynamics. Let’s break down that day-in-the-life a bit more. Strategic Leadership Develop and execute the DTC merchandising strategy to drive revenue, margin, and brand equity. Partner with cross-functional teams (Planning, Marketing, Product, Digital, Retail Operations) to align on seasonal strategies and go-to-market plans. Lead the creation of consumer-centric assortments tailored to channel-specific needs. Assortment & Line Planning Own end-to-end seasonal line planning for DTC channels, ensuring optimal product mix and depth. Analyze historical performance and market trends to inform future assortments. Collaborate with Global Merchandising and Product teams to influence product development based on DTC insights. Channel Optimization Tailor merchandising strategies for eCommerce and retail stores, balancing global consistency with local relevance. Drive localization strategies where appropriate to meet regional consumer needs. Team Leadership Lead and develop a high-performing merchandising team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability. Mentor team members and build merchandising capabilities across the organization. Analytics & Performance Monitor and analyze sales, margin, inventory, and consumer data to inform decisions and optimize performance. Partner with Planning and Allocation to ensure inventory is aligned with demand forecasts and channel needs. What do you need to succeed? We all have unique skills that we bring to work and celebrate every day. For this role, there are foundation skills you’ll need to succeed and excel. Additionally, while formal education in a related field is great to have, we are most interested in your 10+ years of merchandising experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within DTC or omnichannel environments.

Requirements

  • Experience in apparel, footwear, or lifestyle brands.
  • Familiarity with global merchandising and regional market dynamics.
  • Experience working in matrixed organizations with both wholesale and DTC channels.
  • Proven success in building and executing merchandising strategies that drive growth.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in merchandising systems and tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Passion for consumer experience and brand storytelling.
  • 10+ years of merchandising experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within DTC or omnichannel environments.
