Director, Data Solutions - Engineering Workflows

About The Position

We are hiring an experienced metrics practitioner with expertise across the software development lifecycle. As a large company with over 80% of workloads deployed to the cloud, we are seeking someone to help us evolve our understanding of engineering workflows to bring new insights and key measures. This role will be a critical player in defining the measurement behind all of technical flows to align and accelerate every engineer, working in concert with our platform delivery organizations to ensure we have clear, quantified views of our world. You will also play a key role in how we integrate and quantify the impact of AI into various stages of our work as we ensure our tooling investments are giving value in efficiency and/or experience to our engineering population. An ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and the tools that touch the different aspects of it in the modern era. In addition, there should be experience around the SPACE and DORA frameworks for measuring organizational performance as well as comfort in prototyping, validating and implementing new metrics at scale to whole organizations - from individual contributor to senior leader. You should be very comfortable in BI tools as well as with statistical analysis (and where to apply it vs. not) of disparate data sets with the ability to collaborate effectively across a variety of groups in an autonomous way.

Requirements

Strong written and oral communication skills required
Bachelor`s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline preferred
Master`s in same or related disciplines strongly preferred
7-10 years of experience, 5-7+ years of which are in coding for data management, data warehousing, or other data environments, including, but not limited to, working in NoSQL implementation, ETL, Java, scripting languages (Python, Perl, Shell), and the Hadoop stack
5-7+ years experience as developer with top quadrant Business Intelligence tools
Experience using SPACE and DORA frameworks to measure organizational performance
Strong understanding of complex multi-tier, multi-platform systems, and principles of metadata, lineage, business definitions, compliance, and data security
In-depth understanding of Business Intelligence tools, including visualization and user experience techniques

Responsibilities

Independently prototypes/develops data solutions of high complexity to meet the needs of the organization and business customers.
Designs proof-of-concept solutions utilizing an advanced understanding of multiple coding languages to meet technical and business requirements, with an ability to perform iterative solution testing to ensure specifications are met.
Evaluates effectiveness of AI in software development lifecycle.
Acts as a technical leader and mentor to the team.
Designs and develops data solutions that enables effective self-service data consumption, and can describe their value to the customer.
Collaborates with stakeholders in defining metrics that are impactful to the business. Prioritize efforts based on customer value.
Has an in-depth understanding of Agile techniques. Can set expectations for deliverables of high complexity.
Can assist in the creation of roadmaps for data solutions. Can turn vague ideas or problems into a data product strategy.
Influences strategic thinking across the team and the broader organization. Maintains proof-of-concepts and prototype data solutions, and handles any assessment of their viability and scalability, with own team or in partnership with IT. Working with IT, assists in building robust systems focusing on long-term and ongoing maintenance and support.
Ensures data solutions include deliverables required to achieve high quality data.
Displays a strong understanding of complex multi-tier, multi-platform systems, and applies principles of metadata, lineage, business definitions, compliance, and data security to project work.
Has an in-depth understanding of Business Intelligence tools, including visualization and user experience techniques.
Can set expectations for deliverables of high complexity. Works with IT to help scale prototypes. Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of new technologies as needed to progress initiatives.
