About The Position

The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) is one of the largest trade associations in the nation, representing more than 300 heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), water heating, and commercial refrigeration manufacturers from all parts of the world. Ensuring human comfort, productivity, and safety while practicing environmental stewardship is the mission of AHRI. Through our certification program, standards, advocacy, and other activities, we strive to help save energy, improve productivity, and ensure a better environment. AHRI has an opening for a Director, Certification. Supervises the administration of all AHRI certification programs including budget, invoicing and payments of tests, development of new certification programs, and overall responsibility for the performance of certification engineers. Ancillary responsibilities: serve as Executive Assistant to the Certification Committee;; maintain liaison with independent laboratories and oversee testing contract procurement; approval of all certification test invoices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • Minimum 6 years of applied work experience on the manufacturing side of the HVAC industry in a professional engineering position or related position utilizing similar skills and educational requirements.
  • Understanding of the HVAC industry and its products.
  • Understanding of ISO 17065 for certification bodies, Life Cycle Assessment methodology, ISO 14025 requirements for program operators, and industry standards and guidance pertaining to EPDs and PCRs. Basic understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 17025 quality standards.
  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in product/project management, association management, or a related area, with at least 3 years of staff supervision/management.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as supervisor to staff on matters affecting the certification programs and ensure their understanding of certification rules and procedures.
  • Manage, prioritize, and direct the delivery of certification program services to the industry sectors and program participants.
  • Conduct final review of applicants for certification programs before welcoming in the program.
  • Monitor and guide Certification staff in daily work operations to complete testing goals and prepare for annual events/meetings.
  • Develop executable testing completion plans and support participants and staff for the successful delivery of identified goals and strategies for AHRI’s certification programs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with staff, laboratories, AHRI members, and program participants.
  • Develop yearly certification budget and testing goals.
  • Implement lean audits for the efficient operation of certification programs.

  • The salary range for this position is $152,000.00 - $192,000.00 based upon experience.
  • Subject to supervisor approval, AHRI employees are eligible for participation in AHRI's alternate workplace program after 90 days of employment and a 90-day appraisal at a level of meets expectations.
