About The Position

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) envisions a future where all children are free from school shootings and other acts of violence. As a national nonprofit organization, SHP’s mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Creators of the lifesaving, evidence informed Know the Signs prevention programs, SHP teaches the warning signs of someone who may be in crisis, socially isolated, or at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to get help. SHP also advances school safety, youth mental health, and responsible gun ownership at the state and federal levels through nonpartisan policy and partnerships. SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. SHP seeks a strategic and growth-oriented Director, Business Development to expand and deepen our impact across K-12 and Out of School Time organizations within an assigned territory. The role is responsible for proactively increasing market share by securing new district partnerships and expanding adoption of SHP’s comprehensive upstream violence prevention solutions. The Director will bring deep expertise in the K–12 education landscape, including district decision-making structures, funding streams (federal, state, and local), SEL and safety priorities, and multi-year purchasing cycles. They will serve as both an external relationship-builder and an internal strategic thought partner, helping to refine and scale SHP’s business development systems. This role reports to the Associate Vice President of Business Development and collaborates with cross-functional leaders in Programs, Marketing, and Operations to ensure alignment between program growth, implementation excellence, and mission impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 5+ years of progressive success in K-12 education sales, with a strong track record of selling digital solutions to diverse school districts
  • Excellent executive level relationship management and partnership-building skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • High proficiency in Salesforce (forecasting, pipeline hygiene, reporting), Microsoft Office Suite, and virtual engagement platforms
  • Ability to travel within the region
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and racial justice; comfort engaging across politically, socially, and economically diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year territory growth strategy aligned with SHP’s strategic priorities.
  • Design and implement territory plans that expand district partnerships and increase program adoption across urban, rural, and suburban districts.
  • Analyze market conditions, funding cycles, and policy trends to inform strategic targeting.
  • Monitor competitive landscape insights to position SHP as a leading upstream violence prevention partner.
  • Build and maintain executive-level relationships with superintendents, assistant superintendents, SEL directors, safety leaders, and school boards.
  • Lead consultative sales conversations that align SHP solutions with district strategic priorities.
  • Identify and activate district, regional, and statewide partnership opportunities.
  • Secure multi-year and systemwide partnerships.
  • Build and maintain a robust, diversified sales pipeline aligned with annual and multi-year growth targets.
  • Maintain disciplined CRM practices and accurate forecasting within Salesforce.
  • Track key performance indicators including conversion rates, district expansion, and LMS utilization.
  • Contribute to scalable sales infrastructure and process optimization.
  • Serve as a thought partner to leadership on business development strategy, change management, and process improvement.
  • Support statewide partnership activations across the region.
  • Represent SHP at conferences, convenings, and industry events.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, accountability, equity, and continuous improvement.
