About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and humanities-focused individual to join our team as the Assistant Director of Academic Outreach for the Tanner Humanities Center ( THC ). The assistant director will report to the faculty Director and will be responsible for development, implementation, and assessment of academic projects, initiatives, and programs, including the fellowship program. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in expanding our academic partnerships, fostering relationships with educational institutions, and promoting the mission and programs of our organization. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and writing skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for the humanities. The AD will work collaboratively with the marketing and communication team, the Tanner Lecture on Human Values team, College of Humanities dean’s team, development team, grant team, and department chairs. The goal of the THC is to sponsor and promote humanities scholarship and to advocate for the value of humanities research to audiences broadly. The THC is the largest Humanities Center in the Intermountain West, known internationally for lecture series featuring global thinkers and leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communication, English, History or humanities related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
  • eight years of progressively more responsible management experience
  • demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Responsibilities

  • Content Curation for Academic Discourse Contribute to the generation of scholarly content, including academic articles, opinion pieces, and written materials, fostering intellectual discourse and showcasing the Tanner Humanities Center’s contributions to the academic community.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and issues in education to inform and enrich the content produced.
  • Collaborate with fellows, faculty, and researchers to distill complex concepts into accessible and engaging written narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Partnership development Identify, initiate, and cultivate partnerships with academic institutions, on-campus programs, and off-campus community groups (schools, non-profits, government, and corporations/foundations).
  • Collaborate with academic stakeholders to understand their needs and align partnership opportunities.
  • Devise and execute outreach plans to engage diverse audiences in order to enhance awareness and participation in our academic programming and educational initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing support to research fellows and academic partners.
  • Development/Donor Cultivation Support Development Team in securing and stewarding grant funding to support humanities research.
  • Draft narratives and outlines as required for grant applications.
  • Assist Admin Director and Faculty Director in donor cultivation and relationship-building with both former and potential donors.
  • Program Promotion Develop and implement strategies to promote our organization’s academic programs.
  • Create compelling narrative and collateral to effectively communicate the value and impact of our humanities programs.
  • Participate in events, conferences, and workshops to showcase our offerings to academic audiences.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data related to outreach efforts, measuring the effectiveness of various initiatives.
  • Prepare regular reports on outreach activities, including audience demographics to assist in marketing efforts.
  • Problem Solving Incumbents in this position have the authority to manage assigned units and designated programs and services
  • Oversees program development for assigned units and ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
