About The Position

Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to work with an outgoing 15-year-old young man with a developmental disability. He and his family are looking to work with a DSP who will assist him with learning money management and social skills, assist in pursuing his hobbies and interests, and encourage him to engage in social activities and make new friends. The ideal candidate for this DSP position is reliable, active, willing to help look for new and exciting things to do in his community, and comfortable with working with individuals with special needs. Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. Internet access and a valid email address are required. Hours and days of work A total of up to 12 hours per week is available. The desired days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (4 PM - 7 PM), but can be flexible based on the needs of the applicant. Full-time opportunities may be available. Pay rate: $25.00 per hour when providing direct support. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16 per hour. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid email address.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance if required for the job assigned.

  • Must be able to tolerate a moderate noise level in the work environment and must be able to handle distractions.
  • Ability to handle physical aspects of the job, including sitting, standing, using hands to reach, walk, push, or lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Background checks required
  • GED or High School Diploma preferred.
  • Applicable job experience preferred.

  • Previous experience working 1:1 in a related service environment preferred.
