About The Position

Under the direction of the VP, Tribal Brand Marketing & Strategic Initiatives, the Director, Tribal Brand & Community Advancement serves as a key leader responsible for advancing the Tribe’s identity, values, and community impact through integrated philanthropic and brand strategies. This role provides oversight of Tribal Brand (to include Hamiinat magazine and the tribe’s documentary film arm), philanthropy, and community sponsorships. This role ensures that the Tribe’s voice and identity are consistently represented across all all channels and community initiatives, while driving programs that strengthen relationships, foster goodwill, and deliver measurable impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (or related field) required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in government/nonprofit sector directing philanthropic programs required.
  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in a Tribal community to further advancement and awareness of Tribal initiatives and culture including participating in activities such as brand awareness, guiding creative, content and deliverables required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of direct supervisory experience required. Experience managing people leaders preferred.
  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, grammar and proofreading skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects to support multiple high-level executive positions and multiple marketing/entertainment verticals.
  • Analytical in the approach to problem solving with an emphasis on managing within a team environment which is focused on results.
  • Ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected and proficiency with a wide variety of industry standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated expertise in service provision and relationship management.
  • Able to communicate well in all aspects of communications: written, oral, listening, presenting and expressing ideas.
  • Advanced level experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
  • Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience managing people leaders preferred.
  • Familiarity with marketing project management software preferred (i.e. WorkFront).
  • Experience working with government funded programs, preferred.
  • Experience with Blackbaud Grant Management System, highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight for grant and sponsorship operations, overseeing processes, implementation, and high-profile initiatives, including direct engagement of large, high-impact grants.
  • Leads marketing strategies to drive brand awareness, storytelling, and recognition. Oversees the design and production of marketing materials, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with Tribal brand standards. Provides senior oversight for all project requests, ensuring compliance and timely delivery of marketing initiatives.
  • Leads strategic planning, budgeting and execution for Tribal Brand Marketing, Strategic Philanthropy, and Tribal Community Sponsorships.
  • Ensures brand compliance and provides education to internal and external stakeholders on Tribal identity standards.
  • Directs the execution of community sponsorships and events that align with Tribal priorities and values.
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with internal departments, Tribal Citizens, shared services, external partners, and agencies.
  • Leads the development of annual department budgets, financial reports, and regularly monitors compliance with budget goals and objectives. Oversees grant forecasts, monitors grant balances, tracks incoming inquiries and proposals, provides reports and responds to inquiries, as requested. Prepares program and fiscal reports on the Tribe’s Strategic Philanthropy efforts for Tribal leadership, executive management and other internal stakeholders.
  • Stays informed on community needs, policy changes, and local or national issues impacting department functions. Actively engages in community development meetings to strengthen relationships and expand the Tribe’s programs and philanthropic reach.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
