About The Position

The Digital Preservation and Archives Intern will support the long-term stewardship of the Rural History Project by processing and inventorying a diverse collection of documents, photographs, and audio assets. This role is responsible for researching industry-standard archival best practices to help draft and refine the studio’s formal digital preservation policy. Additionally, the intern will perform hands-on digitization of analog materials and manage their publication to online platforms, ensuring these vital historical resources are accessible to a global audience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in library science or related study preferred, or equivalent years of experience.
  • Archive experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collection Processing & Management: The physical organization, rehousing, and formal inventorying of documents, photographs, and audio assets.
  • Policy Development & Research: Conduct research on archival standards and digital preservation practices to assist in drafting, reviewing, and refining the preservation policy.
  • Digitization & Asset Creation: Perform hands-on digitization of analog materials, specifically converting audio cassette tapes into high-quality digital formats while ensuring proper metadata creation.
  • Digital Access & Publication: Manage the upload and publication of digitized historical resources to online platforms, ensuring global accessibility for researchers and the public.
