About The Position

The NC State of Highway Patrol is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our Public Information Office (PIO) as The Digital Media Specialist. The Digital Media Specialist will work on a variety of projects specific to updating the department-wide public facing webpage and all State Highway Patrol managed social media accounts. This position works to strengthen the brand identity. Internal State Government Posting – Only current permanent and temporary NC State Government and/or University employees or layoff candidates with the State of North Carolina eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by G.S. 126 may apply. This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under SHP’s Telework Policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of various social media platforms to include Facebook, Instagram, X, Linkedin, YouTube, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of how to update and manage a public webpage such as Drupal platform.
  • Ability to maintain, learn and stay current with developments and trends as they related to social media and webpage management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to consult and offer support to clients/customers as it relates to the area of responsibility.
  • Experience in content management systems (Sprout Social, Meltwater, SharePoint, Drupal) and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Writing and editing new and informational material.
  • Preparing and disseminating news releases and feature stories through various media outlets.
  • Cultivating strategic partnerships and coordinating joint initiatives with government agencies, internal divisions, and private sector organizations.
  • Overseeing the end-to-end production of multi-channel content—including print, digital, and broadcast—while providing leadership and direction to creative teams.
