About The Position

The Digital Marketing Specialist position will help enhance the marketing efforts for Advancement through building email campaigns, monitoring email performance, identifying key metrics for marketing emails and campaigns, conducting A/B testing and segmentation, and implementing best practices on email content. The individual in this position works strategically and collaboratively to advance the success of the eComm program at the Office of Advancement at CU Anschutz by serving and collaborating with a growing campus user base of email marketers and event managers. The individual in this position will become a technical expert on Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, and Cvent applications and will provide their counsel and expertise to stakeholders within the Office of Advancement and across campus. This individual will also be a valued thought partner to many teams and will work with different colleagues to develop innovative, data-driven solutions to fundraising challenges, and engagement and outreach opportunities. Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Advancement Communications & Design, the Digital Marketing Specialist will develop, build and send electronic communications on behalf of the Office of Advancement, including materials authored by other campus leaders including the Chancellor and many Deans. This role will support existing mass and personalized communications, totaling up to 100 – 300 projects per calendar year, in addition to growing efforts in annual giving, patient engagement, events, alumni relations and stewardship. Additionally, they will be responsible for tracking e-communications outcomes in order to inform and develop future best practices in e-communications. Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism or other related field
  • At least two (2) years of experience working in digital marketing, email strategy campaigns, annual giving communications, digital communications, fundraising or a similar marketing field
  • Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Those selected for interviews will be asked to provide work samples of the following: 3-5 marketing emails and strategy plans, which may include a mix of emails, website posts, and two strategy plans.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies, especially in an organizational setting. Ability to troubleshoot issues within applications.
  • Knowledge of digital and email marketing best practices.
  • Knowledge of data and database support.
  • Knowledge of event website and registration best practices.
  • Ability to build and send marketing emails and develop email marketing campaigns and strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, use and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Marketing Cloud and CVENT.
  • Strong project management skills including organization, attention to detail, conflict resolution, and a team-player mentality.
  • Research skills, including the ability to utilize a variety of tools to ask questions, gather information, and review, analyze, and interpret data.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three (3) years of experience working in strategic communications, email marketing or media campaigns
  • Professional marketing or communications experience in a healthcare or higher education environment
  • Professional marketing or communications experience with annual giving.
  • Experience with project management, prioritization, timelines and ensuring on-time deliverables.
  • Experience working with email marketing software such as Marketing Cloud and event management platform such as CVent.
  • Experience working with web content management systems (Sitefinity, HubSpot) and/or client management software such as Advance or similar
  • Additional training or professional development in the following areas: email marketing strategy and implementation, writing for the web, search engine optimization, graphic design, HTML and video editing

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the CU Anschutz technical lead and builder for Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, and Cvent applications in the CU eComm program. Provides tactical and operational expertise to program users and campus stakeholders.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to build Salesforce campaigns/reports, create and send Marketing Cloud emails, and design and manage Cvent websites and forms as determined.
  • Evaluate digital campaigns and general communications to understand best practices.
  • Create videos and graphics for email campaigns.
  • Creates audience reports and/or campaigns for Marketing Cloud emails sends, which may involve processing and investigating data contained in non-source system lists.
  • Coaches users on email marketing best practices, such as email design and layouts, information hierarchy, and data-driven content.
  • Reviews and approves events in Cvent to ensure correct integration settings, campus brand standards, and financial configurations.
  • Develops current and detailed understanding of all aspects of the eComm program, including applications, users, business requirements, programmatic goals and objectives, and the role that eComm plays in the broader CU CRM enterprise strategy.
  • Collaborates with University Communications, the CU System Office and other CU eComm campus specialists to develop program governance and facilitate program success, including attendance and participation in regularly scheduled meetings and groups, sharing of best practices, creation of pilot programs, etc.
  • Manage event registration platform, creating event landing pages and registration forms for development and alumni events.
  • Prepares routine and non-routine correspondence, including but not limited to mass email messaging, newsletters, event invitations and follow-up and the Advancement website.
  • Responsible for streamlining edits from multiple stakeholders, copyediting and consolidating drafts, and serving as the final reviewer on pieces before they are mailed.
  • Project manage components of digital communications to ensure workflow stays on track while exercising flexibility to accommodate shifting timelines.
  • Manage website content, look, and functionality.
  • Update existing content and generate new content.
  • Perform search engine optimization to help with website ranking.
  • Ensure web content meets standards for accuracy, usability, and best practices.
