About The Position

The Digital Literacy Tutor serves as a tutor for the students seeking to receive additional academic support to reinforce the digital literacy concepts they have difficulties to learn and serves as a Computer Lab Assistant to support learners as they navigate the internet and other technology equipment and learning materials by helping them develop confidence and a positive attitude about technology.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree preferred. Some college credit hours in the computer science or IT fields required.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and English is necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in an effective, supportive manner with learners.
  • Be flexible and highly patient to work with adult learners of varying educational levels.
  • Be respectful of differences in culture and learning styles.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team and be proactive and results-driven when working with little to no supervision.
  • Exhibit professional courtesy in dealing with program participants, colleagues, team members, and the public.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in reading, speaking and writing Spanish.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish and English is necessary.
  • Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Must have a strong customer service approach.
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Applications and the internet.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tutoring lesson plans following the instructor’s guidelines for the meeting sessions with students.
  • Select class materials that are suitable for the students’ ability and needs.
  • Deliver the tutoring lesson plans using a student-centered approach designed to meet the students’ level of understanding and needs.
  • Use technology for conducting instruction to help the digital literacy students feel comfortable using technology.
  • Use a variety of tutoring strategies, including individual or small group instruction to better address the students varying skills levels.
  • Show enthusiasm for teaching, understand and apply current best-practices for adults in classroom techniques and materials.
  • Be knowledgeable of resources that will help in meeting the needs and interests of the students.
  • Encourage and support the adult digital literacy learners by helping them develop confidence and a positive attitude about learning.
  • Respect and involve the students in decisions about their learning process; supporting them and praising them for their efforts; guiding them in adopting a positive learning behavior.
  • Be punctual to every meeting/session with the students.
  • Track the student’s progress through regular assessments and submit monthly reports to the digital literacy instructor and Career Pathways Coordinator
  • Keep a daily and accurate attendance log to track the participants’ daily attendance to tutoring sessions and submit a weekly attendance report to the Digital Literacy Instructor.
  • Contact program participants when they are absent to class and record their absence and case notes in the data tracking system.
  • Monitor and document the students’ individual progress and communicate any problems concerning obstacles to the student’s learning or issues in class to the Digital Literacy Instructor or the Dean of Career Pathways and Community Affairs.
  • Manage digital literacy students’ data entry in Salesforce.
  • Completing office duties as requested that may include, copying, filing, and labeling.
  • In collaboration with the Intake Coordinator, manage the Computer Lab and classroom reservations and notify the Digital Literacy Instructor of any change in schedule and/or classroom location.
  • Assist resource room users in utilizing the computer equipment for additional practice or for internet navigation purposes.
  • Assist program participants using the computer lab with their printing needs.
  • Relay concerns, issues, questions, and comments as appropriate to the Digital Literacy Instructor and/or Intake Coordinator to find solutions, information, or answers to any given issue.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
